Seriously, this kid has as much chance as playing QB for the Steelers as I do. I would have rather seen depth at either line or even a little depth at ILB.
What a pathetic joke.

The standard is the standard.

Well... like you guys, I'm not thrilled with this pick. But I had a feeling we'd grab a QB somewhere in this draft. First, I'm glad it wasn't in an earlier round, so that's a silver lining.
I don't know anything about this kid... but I DO know that Landry Jones is horrific. I'd prefer we sign a veteran QB via free agency a la Charlie Batch or Byron "Whatchu Talkin' About" Leftwich. But we need an option other than Jones. Hopefully, this young man will be that option.
Hes as good as any QB in this draft, last years draft and/or all future drafts right now. I don't want to wait 26 years between Ben and our next HOF QB like we waited for Ben. I want them to evaluate every QB coming out, every year, and pick the best of the class (whether he's a 1st rd'r or 7th rd'r) every year from here on out until we find our next Bradshaw or Ben. Could be the best pick of this decade or could be a bust, but at least they aren't sitting back waiting.
We now have a nuclear physicist and a Stanford grad with a BS in electrical engineering... Maybe DeCastro and Dobbs can figure out the headphone issue in Foxboro....

IMO, I don't think Jones is that bad. Not that great, and certainly not keeping any DC up at night at the prospect of him getting between the lines. Seriously, he has put up very Charlie Batch numbers, if you are a stats geek. If you are an eyeball guy like me, he's a few bricks shy of a load.
For perspective here's what a couple guys are saying about Dobbs. It's amazing we're willing to write this kid off already. He played against some of the best competition in college. Will he be a starter? Doubtful. I had a more negative reaction to him before looking at some stuff last night. This kid is smart enough to learn the position. Needs a couple years. Anyway I don't think it was a "wasted" pick anymore.
Mayock has Dobbs slated to be picked in round 3.
Mel Kiper Jr. has Dobbs pegged as a possible second-round pick. CBS Sports has Dobbs projected as a sixth-round pick and the No. 214 prospect in the draft.
I understand Mettenberger was cut today. Makes sense. Rather than continue to look for a franchise qb in the lower rounds I'd trade up to get one in the first. Almost regardless of the cost in picks or players. I understand "Bradys" do exist but the odds don't favor that happening again anytime soon. The Dallas qb has to prove his ability over more than one year before I call his situation a success.

I see WHY they did it, but Chad Kelly, baggage and all, would have been a better option.
Lake has to go! First, he disparaged the great Lynn Swann on this page, then he libelously attacked Mike Wagner on Facebook. Sorry, if he stays, I am walking!!

STFU and get on the T-Train !!!
Chugga-chugga...Choo!! Choo!!
If I could find my commentary after the Landry Jones pick, I could just cut and paste it.
I HATE drafting a backup QB! I think it's one of the dumbest things NFL teams do.
When you need to plug in a QB with zero notice and preparation, why do you want him to be a rookie?
Backup QBs should be decent QBs with real NFL experience who were kicked to the curb by another NFL team...like Charlie Batch.

This tends to be my thinking as well. IMO, a backup QB needs NFL experience so they can come in, hold down the fort in a professional way, and go back to the bench when it's time.
But then I look at Dak Prescott, who was the 135th pick in the draft, taken in the 4th round... the exact same pick (135) and round (4) as Joshua Dobbs. So who knows?
Dobbs has great potential, who say's he was drafted to be a back-up anyway ? A few years behind Ben and he gets groomed to start when BB hangs them up,if he can show he has the goods. How has drafting QBs high in the draft worked out,hit or miss too....Give the kid a little time and a chance to show something before you label him a wasted pick C-Town.I saw Tennessee play some last year,Dobbs showed he can compete in a tough conference..........Finally,THREE YEAR RULE DAMMIT !
He has the same piss poor mechanics as the great Johnny Football.

Manziel obviously didn't care,Dobbs does.Mechanics are correctable if the player want's to be coached and learn to be a better player.Dobbs is a smart young man and I'd like to believe he want's to take his opportunity to learn from the coaching staff and Ben.Were all Armchair QBs here, your opinion is yours.

Why doesn't he go to a different garage?

Boom. On the money. It wasn't that Manziel
couldn't; it's that he
wouldn't. HUGE difference.
I have no idea how Dobbs will ultimately do. He may suck; he may not. But seeing guys dig their heels in already, pegging him with conviction as a failed draft pick, blows my mind.
Let's wait and see, gentlemen.

My observation stands. He has piss poor passing mechanics. Unfortunately, he did not seem to improve them during his time at Tennessee. If Fitchner can polish him into a gleaming, sparkling gem, like he did Landry Jones, then we are golden, Pony Boy!!!
The Johnny "Drunken F-wad" Football reference was my way of ribbing Regi. By the way, good to "see" you again, Thomas.
Welcome back, Thomas. I'll look you up next time I'm in the Big "D". What was the restaurant we had lunch at my last trip down? It was so nice meeting your son, how's he doing?
