2000 Steelers 23 vs Eagles 26 OT

A roller coaster and one of the few Steelers losses I have ever witnessed in person (my record is 34-3). The Steelers fall behind 10-0 early in the 2nd quarter but come back to take a seemingly commanding 23-13 lead thanks to a late 32-yd fumble return for a TD by Joey Porter and a Kris Brown FG with only 3:42 left in the game. McNabb, who struggles for 3 quarters, suddenly comes alive and shows no panic, leading Philly on a 57-yd drive capped by a 13-yd TD pass to Mitchell with 2:29 remaining. The Eagles then recover an onside kick and drive close enough for David Akers to run on the field and kick the tying 42-yd FG as regulation expires. In OT, Philly receives and quickly moves into FG range to win it on another 42-yd Akers FG. As games go, this is an ugly one. The Steelers are penalized 13 times for 141 yds and lose in spite of a 30 carry, 134 yd performance by Bettis. What a LONG drive home from Pittsburgh that was.
When Bettis carried 30+ times, his teams went 15-1

This is the 1 loss. Complete collapse by Steeler's defense and special teams, allowing a TD, onside kick recovery, FG and another FG on first drive in overtime.

Side note, Kris Brown was so f_cking horrible. Not only a terrible FG kicker, but had to be the worst kickoff guy ever. On ensuing kickoff following his 40-yard FG, he kicks DEEP to the Philly 20 yard line!!!! Mitchell catches it on the run and returns it to the 43 yard line. What a disgrace.

And one last note, this was the 3rd time in the 2000 season that the league office issued an apology for atrocious officiating that went against the Steelers.

"For the third time this season, the NFL has told the Steelers that an officiating crew made an incorrect call in a game they ultimately lost.

The Steelers were told by league officials that referee Dick Hantak's crew should have penalized Philadelphia for improperly blocking Hines Ward on an onside kick attempt that proved crucial in the Eagles' 26-23 overtime victory Sunday.

The Steelers argued that Ward was blocked by several Eagles inside the 10-yard zone before Philadelphia recovered the ball. The Eagles then forced overtime with a field goal by David Akers."
The other blown calls came in the loss to the Browns when Kent Graham took a sack late in the game and rules at the time meant the game clock was supposed to stop (clock always stopped for about 10 seconds after sacks). The clock never stopped and the Steelers didn't get the FG unit on the field in time to attempt a chip-shot game tying FG.

Admittedly, that was a stupid rule and Graham was such a useless turd deserved to lose the game for such a moronic play, but by the rules of the game at the time, it cost the Steelers big time. The other blown call came the next week when an obvious Ward TD was challanged by Cowher and still called incorrectly.

The 2000 Steelers missed the playoffs and went 9-7 but played more like a 10-11 win team and got jobbed out of a playoff birth. Which really pisses me off.
