1983 Steelers 14 vs Vikings 17

The Steelers start strong with a TD on their opening drive, but as the game progresses, Cliff Stoudt is sacked 5 times and suffers through a miserable day. Even so, the Steelers have a chance until Bennie Cunningham drops a 4th down pass that would've converted and put the Steelers in FG range in the final minute. A special thanks to Gary Beach for contributing this game video recorded from Sky Sports (UK), broadcast in the UK on the Monday after the game was played. The game footage is shortened to 37 minutes.

The 1983 season was the first season I can remember watching the Steelers as a kid. I remember this game being the game that started their late season free fall that year. They came in to this game riding a 7 game winning streak and were actually tied for best record in the NFL with the Redskins. Couldn't win a game the rest of the year except for the one game Noll started Bradshaw out of desperation against the Jets.

'83 was a strange season. During that 7-game winning streak, I kept waiting for the wheels to come off because Stoudt was playing so poorly... but we somehow kept winning in spite of him. The defense played truly great ball at times during that stretch. It was a very solid unit.

But when the wheels fell off... man, it was all 4 wheels at once.  Embarassed Sick Pi_freak

Man, I remember being SO flippin' excited when Bradshaw came back. That was a nationally televised game, Saturday afternoon I think. During that first quarter, I was like, "Oh, man... lookout! Terry's back! We're goin' back to the Super Bowl!"  Rockon

And then... oh, snap.  Ohwell
