Let's quit whining about a damn schedule and get the hell to work'
Bob Labriola of Steelers.com >

The Steelers have a tough schedule in 2021 in totality, but they'll for sure be tested in December and January.

The tough stretch of games begins on Dec 5. against the Ravens, and after that, there's a meeting with the Vikings in Minnesota on a short week on Thursday Night Football. Then the final four games of the season are against teams who all made the playoffs in 2020 -- Titans, at Chiefs, Browns on Monday Night Football, and at Baltimore to finish the regular season against the Ravens.

"It's a tough closing stretch, no question about it, so we have to be ready to get on a roll at the end of the season. That's one of the challenges you just have to be ready to deal with," Steelers president Art Rooney II told Bob Labriola of Steelers.com.

It may be a brutal stretch to end the season, but you won't find Mike Tomlin or any of the Steelers players complaining about it.

Unleash Hell!!!!

Seriously I don’t have a problem with this schedule. 5 prime time games and 9 home games.

Plus they usually play down to weaker teams.
And Cam needs to remember to show up for the playoffs. Great player and leader but he was Casper against Cleveland last year.

Oh and everyone else showed up for that game?

Cam was spent because of lack of depth on the d-line and pathetic Fitchner offense by seasons end going into the playoffs. Pick another area on the team to blame for that loss...not Cam.

I'm not blaming him for the loss, just pointing out he didn't play as well as he should have in that game. He wasn't alone, other veterans failed to show up as well.

As far as being spent, the veterans sat out the previous week also against Cleveland, so he had a full 2 weeks rest as did they. This game was much closer with the back-ups than that of the veteran led play-off blow-out, in the 'Burgh nonetheless.

Cleveland had many players out due ti the Covid, as well as no HC. It was debacle of a game that should rank up there with some of the Steelers most embarrassing losses.

I do agree with you on Fitchner, he has trotted out the worst offenses I have ever seen in the NFL the past 2 seasons. I can't wait to see what Canada brings to the table. I have seen high school offenses more prolific and less predictable than Fitchners.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac, the Steelers are planning to sit Maurkice Pouncey, T.J. Watt, and Cam Heyward against the Browns.
Quote:In addition to Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers will not play C Maurkice Pouncey, OLB T.J. Watt and DE Cam Heyward against the Browns on Sunday.

Cam had 2-weeks rest before the playoffs and was virtually invisible during the game.

Heyward, Watt, Tuitt, Edmonds, Nelson, Hayden and Fitzpatrick played 800+ snaps all season with Fitzpatrick going over 1000 downs played. Not sure if you ever played in an organized sports as physical on the body as football but there is no person able to play with a high motor and intensity at 32 years old, all season long especially when the team was screwed all year with the schedule change and bye week fiasco due to opposing teams dealing with Covid issues. Here is a list of downs played per player https://subscribers.footballguys.com/tea...-pit-6.php What this list does not show is how fequently the defense had to return to the field due to an inept offense.

THE DEFENSE WAS SPENT!   Last couple of games the signs were showing just how worn out they were. When the depth include players like Cassius Marsh, Buggs, Davis and Wormely, that alone should tell you something if you actually watched the games and saw them play.

Funny how someone who claimed to boycott watching steeler games during last season can pass judgement on players who balled out all year long and had to step it up due to injuries in key positions and lack of quality depth.

I watched every game and personally the opinion coming from somebody who didn't means squat to me.
I'm with everyone here who hates what the NFL shield has become with all this woke and racial injustice bullshit but I'm not gonna let all that crap keep me from watching the team I have loved all my life. I have thick enough skin to sift out the bullshit and just watch football.
The Steelers f-ing SUCKED in the Cleveland playoff game. Outcoached, outplayed and out-hustled by a team with ZERO playoff experience and literally NO HEAD COACH. The only loss that even remotely rivals it in terms of embarrassment and humiliation is the '89 51-0 season opener.

But at least the '89 humiliation had a silver lining as that Noll-coached team went on to beat Cleveland in the rematch and ended up going further in the playoffs than the 2020 team, beating Houston and nearly beating Denver (if not for a late Elway comeback). And they did it with flippin' Bubby Brister at QB, not a sure first-ballot HOFer.

Spent defense or not, the playoff debacle vs. Coach-less Cleveland is the most embarrassing and inexcusable loss in Steelers history. It's been marinating with me all off-season; I'm more sickened by it now that when it happened. The team better harbor the same level of disgust and be prepared to DO something about it.

I will tell you candidly, revenge on Cleveland ranks significantly higher for me than the Super Bowl this year.
2 things matter in December/January football:
Health and Momentum.

Schedule doesn't mean much. They're all going to play 17.
Approximately 75% of the Steelers showed up, including Cam Heyward.

Those that are writing Ben off don't bet on it. I saw a few clips and his arm looks just fine. A couple of nice deep bombs to Najee as well.

Ben will be back.

I can't even remotely understand why anyone would write Ben off.

I don't listen to sports radio, don't pay attention to what any talking heads are saying, don't pay attention to sports social media beyond some classic Steelers groups I'm in, so I'm not hearing the Ben bashing. Kinda blows my mind that some people think he's the issue.

Ben is fully capable of finishing his career like Elway. He's still one of the best QBs in the league. A running game will be a huge help. Ridiculous that most of the receiving corps didn't show up. You'd think guys that dropped that many balls and consistently failed to get open last season would be all over it. It's not like there are a bunch of veteran superstars in that group.

I agree 100%. I stopped reading and listening to most sports articles.  I think Ben had a good season last year. The way he came back in the Cleveland game. most passes were spot on. I don't think the writers are actually watching the games. They are going by Wins and hype.
Also keep in mind. Ben had some rehab time. But hadn't really played a game or have arm strength for a full season before last year. He sat out most of the season before and still had a good year. This year he should be at full strength.
I don't think the anemic offense the past 2 seasons had much to do with the QB. Randy (OC) had a stale, predictable, unispiring offense that relied on the QB getting rid of the ball in 2 seconds or less. The WRs were noit out of the break in most cases and because they were still close to the LOS the ball had a low trajectory. That allowed the opposing D-line to knock passes down and also defenses clogged the middle. The offensive game planning was horrid. Couple that with a piss-poor RB stable and you have the results you see.

Promoting Matt Canada as OC will really help. He offense will be more dynamic and involve more pre-snap motion. Najee will help tremendously not only in the run game but also the passing game.

I saw a few clips of Ben last week and I suggest that you don't bet against him. He looked just fine.
Looks like the WR's are at OTA's this week, so that's good news.  Thumbsup
