Good story, good character, but pick her was a round or 2 early. Better backs available, IMHO. Runs with pads to high, might I say the return of Frank "The Tank" Summers?
Only had the chance to watch one Pitt game all year. I also think he runs with his pads too high. He was able to get away with that in college but I think he might have to adjust a bit if he wants to succeed at the next level. If he can productively handle 5-10 touches a game and give Bell a break, it may justify picking him this early.

However, it certainly is a feel good story.
how does this make us better? He won't play ahead of the two guys we have now. So he gets in on goal line? Gets in if people go down? I do not get this draft at all.
Good story, good character??? Are we the flipping Boy Scouts of America trying to right a novel or are we the F'N Pittsburgh Steelers????
Before he got sick and injured he was Leveon part II. Started to get strength back at the end of the season. He has to be used every 3rd series, carries or not, to give Bell a break.
Jeeez, read this story on this kid without a Kleenex!:  Steelers' James Conner already a hero to many
He'll be fine. Play him every 3rd series, carries or not. Use Davis as the 3rd down back.

Same "plan" they used with Parker when he had Whiz and Arians as OC.

Have to save Bell's legs.
He'll be starting before the season is over.

Well I was stupid once again.  Amazing. I didn't know Williams hadn't been signed.  So now this pick becomes something else entirely.  No clue why you guys allow me to make stupid comments like this!!! COME ON GUYS!   After watching his film I'm telling you this guy is going to be a good one.  He is going to play a lot this year spelling Leveon.  He got better all year.  This guy without the cancer fight could have been a second round pick or a late first.  I watched a ton of highlights on him and I'm now a believer.  This was NOT a wasted pick and it wasn't to early.  I'm looking forward to seeing him run at the next level.  We needed a better option to back up Bell and I think we got it.  Good pick at this position.  So I guess i'm liking this draft more and more all the time.  He runs HARD and rarely goes down with the first hit.  Picked up well north of 100 yards against the best defense in the country at division 1 and saying the blocking was great in that one game against the best and he had nothing to do with is attempting to justify a position not deal with the fact that he tore em up.  So once again after the emotion clears I am forced to admit that this could turn out to be an inspired pick.

yeah Bryant's character could have cost a shot at the super bowl this year.  This kid is NOT just character.  He's a great player.  You can have both.  The Steelers I think have learned a lot about character and talent lately. It's time to try and find the good character guys that can bring you a championship

only if Bell goes down.  So if you're saying that is going to happen then I might agree.  He doesn't beat out one of the top 3 backs in all of the NFL

Yup, that's what I'm saying. I don't see Bell going a full season. He'll either get injured or do something stupid.

I can see Conner eventually becoming a team leader along the lines of Bettis and Hines. He's a good kid with footballs skills and a brain between the ears.

Agreed and welcome back GT!! I got to see a lot of Pitt football and the dude is the real deal....and a quality individual!
Interesting pick, still concerned about speed and pad height. Time will tell if he is closer to the "Bus" or to Frank "The Tank". Played in a pretty weak, anemic division so time will tell. Should make a decent ST'er and I saw he can rush the QB. is this our new "Slash"?
Please, not Tank the Hank?? Having watched the video, he does look like the Bus a bit, although, I don't think his feet are quite as quick. It's going to be interesting at the NFL level where there isn't so much space to maneuver and in general, the pad levels on defenders quite a bit lower. Good looking prospect however. We'll see.

Picked up over 100 yards against the best defense in college ball
I'd like to see the box score and stats from that game.

easily done.

He had 139 yards rushing and totaled 189 yards of offense.  This kid is a great back.  He'll be faster as he gets stronger and he's huge.  You can watch his tapes and see he has all the speed he needs.  I've reversed myself on this pick.  He's the real deal and is going to be a great back.

I don't want Conner anywhere near special teams.

I'm telling you guys, he's going to produce. Turn him into a goal line back like Bettis early on. He's leaner, and as far as I was told he's getting his endurance back.

This hammie he has isn't helping him much. Can't make the team from the tub. That said, I am looking forward to seeing him in action. I hear he's a great kid too.
It's OTA's. I'll worried about his hammy if he's not ready by Latrobe.

He was working out with Ben (they share the same agent) BEFORE he was drafted, he already knows the entire rout tree. As long as he keeps his nose in his playbook right now that's all that matters.
I see him as a Jonathan Dwyer type player.
Not even close. He was Bell 2.0 before he got injured and then sick.
He runs with his pads high and looks like he is running in mud. A cross between Dwyer and Issac Redman.

Time will tell.

Isaac Redman... man, who was it from the board that was constantly, incessantly, unrelentingly beating Redman's drum (ad nauseum) as the second coming a few years ago?   Pi_freak Sick
