1996 Steelers 42 vs Rams 6

The Bus gets redemption, bulldozing through former team mates mercilessly as the Steelers crucify the Rams! The Bus gains 129 yds on 19 carries and scores 2 TDs while playing less than 3 full quarters before Cowher decides to rest him (in spite of Bettis' protests to continue his onslaught). Almost as satisfying as Bettis' success is the utter futility of his "replacement" in St. Louis, Lawrence Phillips, who gains an embarrassing 6 yards on 5 carries and is a total non-factor. An absolute @$$-whipping, start to finish.

Lawrence Phillips ended up being a draft bust then a thug/convict. I know several teams warned the Rams not to draft him because of his off the field issues

I wonder when time went by Rams fans thought. Is Rich Brooks a dumbass for letting Bettis go? Then drafting Lawrence Phillips who ended up being a headache.

I hate it when I see talented guys like Phillips throw their lives away, which he eventually threw away literally. A total waste. The Rams made a bad decision letting Bettis go and drafting Phillips, but their fortunes would change in the upcoming years with the "greatest show on turf" leading to a championship and another Super Bowl appearance.

C'mon, has there ever been a guy the size of Jerome Bettis with the kind of lateral movement he had? Look at that cut back at the 024:39 mark. Awfully impressive for a 250 lb guy.

In my lifetime, only the great Earl Campbell could compare.

Plenty of highlights and analysis from both ESPN and Fox after this game, including a clip of Rams coach Rich Brooks stating that he could have been a breakaway runner if only he'd had the holes Jerome did in this game. Ungracious to the end; no wonder he was fired!
