Update: Classic videos are BACK!!!

Well... I've finally begun the process of getting our classic videos on the site again! 

I've settled on a host (although I may use several to insulate myself from NFL attacks) and I've been working to properly format the videos to "fit" the TV screen. The videos take a little more time to download before you can click play and start watching (sometimes a minute or more), but after that, things seem to be pretty seamless.

Also, the << Rew and FF >> buttons work again (they didn't with the old Vimeo player) so you can easily jump back/ahead in 10-second increments. So glad I left them on the player when our format changed. Huge time-saver!

Re-configuring and uploading all of these games takes time, so getting all the videos up will be a SLOW process. But I'm very happy to say we're now moving full steam ahead and I will be uploading new games daily.

Just one small request: If you could occasionally upload a new-to-this site game every once in a while, I'd appreciate it. I've seen literally every game you've uploaded. I know you have plenty of old standbys to get through first, but the occasional fresh game might increase both viewers and contributors to the message board.

That's a great idea, Garrett! Once I get through my top 15 or so, I'll put up something new and continue to do so periodically as we get things back up and running.

Yes, it's a ton of work. Since the game summaries are already written, the videos are already converted and edited, the blank HTML files all pretty much exist and just need updated once videos are uploaded, it's a lot faster now. In terms of actual time spent, it's not that much these days. A few minutes per video to get things set up, I'd say 15 minutes tops. Mostly, it's just waiting for the videos to upload and process, which doesn't require me to do anything. That can take several hours per video depending on the size, and I just go do other things. 

Now, if you go back to the inception of the videos on the site, it's generally a couple hours (at least) PER GAME in terms of editing, set up, writing game summaries, etc. And we had over 450 games on the site. Yikes.

I don't want to say too much, but my belief is that the place where the videos are hosted will ignore NFL chest thumping. 

If I'm proven wrong, I already have plan B and plan C in place. We'll see.

Yeah, I like the different perspective they give as well, although most of the network folks are fine with me as well (especially Enberg/Olsen). 

I'll hopefully be adding the rest of the games I have with Cope/Fleming this week (all from '78/'79).

The only regular season game from '75 that exists (so far) is the 2nd half of the Steelers/Rams game. It's the 2nd half only and it's hardly a thriller being the last game of the season with lots of reserves playing. It will go live on the site this week. 

Man, I would LOVE to get my hands on that '74 playoff game vs. the Bills. So far, it doesn't exist in video format (although I have the radio broadcast on audio cassette somewhere).

Not sure how long it will last, but the way we're doing it now is vastly superior to the way we had to do it before. Much more freedom and the only limitation is time. Plus, all of the "foundational" work is already done. Once the videos are uploaded, all I have to do is update a link and BOOM! The game is up. I don't have to create new separate pages, write game summaries, etc.; all of that stuff is already there.

While you might already be aware of this, there is a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-iyJPJ1wjs&app=desktop of the 1971 game between the Steelers and the Dolphins. It’s a dolphins radio broadcast merged with extended video highlights. I thought you (or anyone else) might be interested.

My question simply regarded the sections of games within ‘1987-1988’, ‘1989-1990’, and ‘1998-2000’. I’ve noticed for a while there has been a ‘more coming soon’ for those sections but no recent addition and when I looked at the complete game list I did not see any additional games. I was curious whether the ‘more coming soon’ was just a little outdated or not. I realize those years are not the finest hours in steeler history and I don’t mean to sound ungrateful as you have an incredible website teeming classics, I just thought I’d ask to clear this up.

Regarding "more coming soon," there eventually WILL be more coming, including from the "darker" years. Obviously, I'm still playing some major catch-up since the NFL pulled down over 440 games. We've re-uploaded over 200 so far, more coming every day. We've got several games on hand that aren't on the list yet, and we have several contributors with missing games once we're ready to handle them. But short-term, I'm catching up with what we had before.
