1981 Steelers 7 at Bengals 34

In what is supposed to be a tightly contested game between two 4-2 AFC Central foes battling for first place, the Steelers are thoroughly dominated start to finish. While Cinci piles up 494 yds (the most ever against a Chuck Noll club), Pittsburgh's #1-ranked offense musters only 205 yds and narrowly averts the most lopsided Steelers defeat since 1969 on a Bradshaw TD pass in the final minute of the game. As ugly as it gets. A shout out to Jay Korber for generously providing us with this game!

Didn't Noll chew out Franco for fumbling?

I don't recall a blow up between Noll and Franco, but it's certainly possible. That said, Franco was hardly the problem in this game. The defense gave up nearly 500 yds, which was unheard of against a Noll defense in those days. Cinci did whatever they wanted to to offensively.

I remember being sick with the flu while watching this game as a kid, nibbling saltines and drinking 7-Up and feeling even sicker by the end of the game after watching the Steelers stink it up. This was our 3rd straight loss to Cinci (with a 4th to come) and it just drove me nuts because a) I still thought we were a better team and b) the Cinci-loving neighbor kids down the street rubbed my face in itafter having been our punching bag for most of my youth.

This debacle of a game is one of the reasons the '82 OT win vs. Cinci still holds a special place in my heart.

There was a game Franco kept fumbling against Cincy, and Noll let him have it.

I always thought it was this one.

I don't think it was this game, mostly because the Steelers only had one turnover.
