Pats 43, KC 40: That's not NFL Football

Anybody watch the Patriots/Chiefs game last night? I tried... although I slept through many parts of it, drifting in and out and opening an eye to check the score. The announcers seemed happy with the game; Collinsworth was spewing.

But to me, that was a basketball game. Up & down the field, no need to watch until the final 2 minutes. When EVERY offensive play is working for a big gain, then there aren't really any "big" plays anymore. Yes, it was a high scoring game that came down to the final play... but it certainly wasn't a a game for the ages. It wasn't even exciting to watch.

Defense NEEDS to be part of the game. I don't think I'm alone in this kind of thinking.

The game has definitely changed no doubt. Go by memory I think the last Super Bowl had over 1,100 yards, 1 - 3 and out, and 1 punt. The rules are staggered tremendously for the offense.

I read an article in which a quote (by an ex-Steeler, can't recall his name, DL) mentioned the fact that there is too much money in fantasy football (admittedly I know nothing about this, never played it) and it has ruined the game. Interesting spin, if I say so myself. Damn shame.

Sadly, I think whoever made that connection is exactly right. Fantasy football (which I have always viewed with great skepticism if not outright contempt) is undoubtedly a huge factor behind ruining the REAL game of football.

I still contend that eventually, defense will be reduced to fielding one player, who may only travel within 2 yards of the LOS, with the outcome of the game, un beknown by the average fans that are left,  decided by the coin toss.
