1986 Steelers 22 at Bengals 24 MNF

With the Steelers reeling at 1-5, rookie QB Bubby Brister gets his first NFL start. Bubby is far from great, hitting only 12 of 33 and missing on 8 straight passes at one point. But Bubby also brings some much-needed positive energy to the Steelers, driving them inside Bengal 10 early in the game (only to have Gary Anderson miss a critical chip-shot FG), then following a blocked punt, Brister scores on a QB sneak to tie the game 7-7. The Steelers actually lead 19-14 after 3 quarters, but as losing teams so often do, the Steelers find new and embarrassing ways to lose. On 4th and 12 from their own 39, Bengals punter Jeff Hayes -- who had 1 punt blocked previously in the game and also gave up a safety -- fakes the punt and races 61 yds, completely untouched, to the end zone to give the Bengals a 21-19 lead that they never relinquish. Frank Gifford and Lynn Swann on the call for Monday Night Football. Thanks to Jay Korber for providing us with this game!

It was Frank Gifford doing play by play, since Al was doing the ALCS that week.
