First change announced today.  Likely not the last but that's just me thinking.

I don't think he had much to work with the last 3 years outside of Watt.  Losing Shazier was a major blow.  But his job was to take talent and improve it.  I don't think he was up to the task and the team's LB situation demonstrates that.

Maybe the time is finally right to move to a 4/3?  A lack of depth at LB seems to indicate that might be prudent.  I know that's been a topic often discussed among the fan base.

That's a good start but Butler and Smith need to be next.

My gut tells me this is the only change. I hope I'm wrong.

Gerry Dulac announced Butler is safe. Not sure about Smith.

That pretty much confirms what I've thought for 2+ years now: its really Tomlin that's running the defense.  He's responsible for the game plan and many/most of the calls so he's keeping Butler to keep from acknowledging and taking responsibility for same. How else could you justify keeping the guy?

Pretty much spot-on. Butler is a puppet to Tomlin.

Gerry Dulac was on ESPN 970:

Said Butler is staying because he allows Tomlin to have a large say in the defense and most D-coordinators wouldn’t be down with that.

Dulac also said that especially at the end of the season Tomlin had more control of the defense then Butler.

Which further confirms: BOTH need to be Gone... NOW!  Just one example:  New Orleans goes heavy down on the goal line (6 O-Line +), Steelers counter with… Dime ?!?... Result:  Mike Hilton (all 5’8” 184#) gets steam-rolled by Alvin Kamara... 6 points NO... easy!

This all sucks... Looking forward > Theirs nothing to look forward to. And Tomlin's Contract is up next year? If they extend him the Steelers are screwed. Normally they would tend to extend a coaches
contract before the final year?

He should be extended sometime this offseason. And no, he won't refuse it because he underachieved or anything like that, mush as some of you may want him to.

You need to be in the dime package against the Heavy set offense at the goal line. Gotta make sure the Tackle eligible is covered if they run one of them trick plays.  Pi_bigsmile

Defense was tough to watch this year. Had plenty of time in the offseason to replace Shazier with far better options than the one they picked late out of the FA dumpster who stunk it up early in the year and hardly sniffed the field late in the season.
