Best way I've heard it described - ever. And it was. The game wasn't even as close as the score. Complete and utter ass-whipping.
The New England Patriots laid a woodshed beating on the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday Night, striking fear into an NFL witnessing a defending champion in peak form in Week 1 about to add Antonio Brown to its roster. The Pittsburgh Steelers, which appear to be a good team on paper, had zero answer for the Patriots on either side of ball, outmatched in every phase of the game in a 33-3 loss. In a game filled with demoralizing moments for the Steelers and their fans, one delivered by head coach Mike Tomlin stood out above the rest. Tomlin waves white flag in third quarter Early in the third quarter, the Steelers faced the last vestiges of making the game somewhat competitive, facing fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line and a chance to cut their deficit to two scores. It was definitely an ass-whuppin'... but it's week 1. Long way to go. Disappointing, but sadly not surprising.
I won't be surprised in Seattle puts another whuppin' on us next week. But we'll get better, and if we can somehow find our way to 3-3 after the first 6 games, I think we have a decent shot of making a playoff run. Two of those wins need to come against our division opponents (Cinci and Baltimore), because the division will be tight again this year and like last year, I don't think anyone other than the division winner from the AFC North will get into the postseason. |

It is early but it is so disappointing seeing the same old song and dance every year. It seems as the coaches are unable to learn or progress. Started out decent, New England made the adjustments, the Steeler didn't. Connor was taken out early in lieu of JaySam and it backfired mightily. You can't play Belicheat and Co. twice with the same game plan.
Tomlin plays checkers, most coaches are playing chess. Next - Minkah, #39! ![]() |

I will say this, I have never seen a team so good at "holding" and "pick plays" as N.E. They have perfected these to an art.
But with that being said you know what they do, you have to at least try and counter it. I saw no viable game plan last night. On the defensive side of the ball did we even try 1 blitz? I don't remember seeing one. You have to at least try and rattle Brady, playing soft only allows the deep bombs that we saw. I'd rather go down swinging than trying this crap last night. We absolutely tried to blitz early, and brutha, we got KILLED when we did. Brady ate us alive because the safeties (Kam Kelly in particular) bit hard when Brady momentarily looked off the coverage. Collinsworth gave a great video illustration of it during the game. Brady was beating us nearly every time. Again, young players did not execute. I don't think the defensive game plan was bad, however. Inexperienced players broke down against one of the great signal callers of all time. I can live with it. What happened (or more accurately, didn't happen) on offense bothers me more. When a ball hits a receiver in the hands, he should usually catch it. When you have a clear path to the end zone, you should take it instead of running out of bounds (perhaps he just lost his balance?). Too early to panic. It's one game. Move on. P.S. -- This isn't a defense of Tomlin. Clearly, he didn't have the team ready. I'm just saying the defensive problems were more about poor execution than poor scheme. |

I was Curious why McDonald was plugged in "Only" at the end of the game. The first 2 drives The steelers never threw a pass more then 7 yards? The last two games when we beat or almost beat the Patriots, They were pass happy. This is the only way they could possibly win. But, no way are the receivers and quarterback on the same page. Next weeks game should be interesting to see how Tomlin whips this team into form? I'm not sure whats going to happen. Seattles going to have a field day with our secondary. Tomlin looked scared and a deer in headlights by the 3rd quarter. I hope the Rooney's are watching this.

Kills me to write that but they are simply a better team and organization than we are now. Also, this is a bit of a catch-22 but our starts played a grand total of 11 snaps together in the preseason. You play them in preseason you run the chance of injuries. This was a dismal beat-down as I've seen, but I've come tot he realization they are just a better run organization, better coached, and have the better players right now. NE's secondary back-up players would probably start for 30 or 31 other teams. They are loaded. This I think is were hoodie excels. He adapts to the modern game. With this pass-happy league money you load up the secondary. His center and team caption go down, he just plugs in another guy. He's just that good and we are not. Too me Baron looked 100 years old and a few times he didn't take the right angles or loafed. We just aren't going to beat this team any time soon. Do I think we're that bad? No, but we are not in NE category, not by a long-shot. It's going to be interesting when AB gets there. This team is very "team-first", wonder how he is going to fit in. By the looks of it they really don't need him. Next - Minkah, #39! ![]()
