First of all, I do not now and never have had a Facebook page. Anyone who says I do is either lying or knows a hell of a lot more about me than I do myself.
Second, the "parent's basement" stuff is so overplayed it's not really an insult. I actually live in my father's basement, but that's because our house is a mobile home. I'm unable to have my own house due to medical issues, and I thank heaven every day that my dad's still around and able to help me. Third, how can someone as ignorant and stupid as Sandfan appears to be ever make a living, let alone a million dollars? I guarantee you he's never called a black man "boy" to his face, because he's still living and posting and not sis feet underground with his heart cut out. Finally, Sandfan's mocked liberals for being too sensitive. Since he was the one who made this discussion political first, let me say that this board's gone straight to hell ever since the Steelers didn't stand for the anthem that day in Chicago two years ago. Ever since then, people here have been more strident and hateful in their criticisms of the team, and that's mostly aimed at the right-wing nutjobs who are standing by laughing and cheering while their boy (and make no mistake, he's a boy in every way except biologically, as he proves daily) makes this once-great country into an international laughingstock. Compared to that, calling an African-American football coach "boy" doesn't matter one iota. (By the way, I'm no disgruntled Hillary supporter either; I only voted for her four years ago since I fervently believed that Trump was even worse. I'm sorry to say that I was absolutely right, at least as far as people who aren't profiting by his idiocy are concerned.)

The lowest level of African American unemployment, for sure in recent history, perhaps the entire history of the US. Hillary would have been a far worse President and I'm so thankful everyday we don't have to see "Pant Suits" desecrating the oval office, of course her husband turned that in to the "Oral Office". Not that I or anyone has to defend Sandfan but in no way did he use "boy" in a racist way. I'm sorry to hear about your health concerns. Having such issues would make me overly sensitive also. |

Oh! Good Grief!
Can we get back to football? Did any body notice in the one and only Preseason game, Most of Ben’s passes we’re right at the line of scrimmage. Was there much difference in New England, or the first half of the Seattle game? We wonder why the team is flat? They’ve known there is a problem, and give it to Ben for giving it the good old college try. Basically, when Ben injury happened, the air went out of the balloon on this season which should not be a surprise to anybody. Rudolph played a decent game running a game plan that was designed for a QB that could not hold up against a defense that knew Ben was deficit. Rudolph is no Ben in his prime, but neither is Ben. Just sayin’. This just may be a significant improvement. Depending on Davis’s situation, Bush’s development, the Defense should improve significantly as the year wears on. Now the decision has been made for the coaches, I’m looking for some improvement in offensive production. There were really only 4-5 plays that cost us the game yesterday, and we were playing short handed. For gosh sakes, everybody calm down. |

That being said:
Bench Moncrief. Trade him for a Snickers bar and a pack of Slim Jims. Whatever you do - do not put him on the field again. James Washington starts. Now. Give Mason a target he's worked with for a few years. Get McDonald in the game - simplify the playbook. Invite Conner to carry the ball occasionally. Play defense.

I've also respected every President we've had. Some views I've disagreed with, however I've approached each as the figurehead that they are, and realize I'll never have the full picture that they do. You've a right to be offended at or by anything and everything. Don't be mistaken into thinking that 'offense' is anything other than a choice. |

Tim pointed out to me that the speed of the game is still maybe a tad beyond Bush at this point so I'm willing to wait and see. I saw him get pancaked at least twice against Seattle. He was driven five yards back and ended up on his back. So we'll see how that pans out. I'm not on board with our coaching at all. We will be looking at 0-3 after Sunday I believe. I hope I'm wrong |

Garrison, Have you ever hear the truism “If you are told a lie often enough, it become your truth?” Have you read any Thomas Sowell? Any of the studies from Hillsdale College on Racisim in this country as opposed to elsewhere in the world? Let me ask you a question. If you and I are on a first name basis and your are sitting with, let’s say 4 or 5 of your friends, and I walk by. What are the odds that you would introduce me to your friends? Even acknowledge me? I’ve worked in finance for over 40 years, the last 30 in banking, and you know what? In that environment I’ve seen ZERO instances of racism. My father hired a man of color back in the 50s, to a technical position, the first one for the firm that wasn’t a cook or a janitor, and he almost lost his job over it. He took a position that he didn’t hire a man of color, he hired a dang good electrician that was a joy to work with. He staked his job, his reputation, not to mention the well being of his wife and 4 kids on a principle that ALL men are created equal. And pretty much is my default position as well. We are equal. Equal. What you see as racism, is really just people that are ignorant jerks and it’s a very minute minority of the population. It’s not a conspiracy. The reason you see it as racism is that it is being drummed into your head by the media. Let me tell you, over the years I have worked with thousands of people of color, from children of sharecroppers, and blue collar workers that have busted their humps, got themselves educated, and or worked hard, saved their money, and became successful in life. Why? Because to a fault the all believe that God will bless the child that’s got his own. None of them we’re going woe is me looking for hand outs. No sir, they worked their but off. Going forward if you want to play the race card it not going to help your cause because by doing so, you are devaluing yourself saying the world is stacked against me I can’t do it. Didn’t stop, Grover Washington Carver. Didn’t stop the thousand I’ve done financial plans for. Didn’t stop a man that said he lived for the day men would not be judged by the color of his skin, but the character of his heart. |

But Sandfan still called a fully grown black man "boy". His choice of language is the only issue. He used a racist epithet regardless of context, and he should be condemned for it. I don't care if he's the nicest man in the world and wouldn't hurt a fly otherwise; if he uses racist language he ought to be ashamed of himself, especially since at seventy-three he should know better. Nothing else should enter into the discussion, period. (I'm white, so I have no personal stake in this except to promote what I feel is common decency.)

What you're attempting is called, "Framing and projection". It's a tactic in debate when you frame the discussion in a particular way (to the omission of all other points of view) and them you project your own bias into another speakers comments. The exact comment was, "I hope the boy gets it done." Now, lets completely skip the fact that it was used in the context of ,'we've been rough on him, and here's his chance to rise to the occasion - and I hope he does', and rather look at what you consider highly offensive. The word, "boy". It could be that he was referring to the "child version of a male human'" - though that would be grossly out of context. "Someone emotionally subordinate to me" - also doesn't fit the context. Now, let's go out into a Roswell-conspiracy level of left-field comments: "A racist epithet". Boy? On what PLANET is "Boy" a racial epithet? Dude (a general, Californian word that is also not a racial epithet) get outside and experience the real world a bit. It's not fair, it's generally not kind, and talking to other living human beings might give you a little conversational context. Drift outside the borders of our snowflake filled country and you'll find out that there are many, many things you take for granted. Also - never watch a Mel Brooks movie. Your head would fucking explode. |

There have been a lot of threads derailed by stupidity on this site over the last 20 years. This one isn't the dumbest... but it probably makes the top-10 list. I have zero interest in aiding and abetting the hijacker, so back on topic.
I am so sad to see Ben lose this season to injury. Heavyhearted is probably a better word. I haven't felt this heartsick about football since Rod Woodson went down in week 1 vs. Detroit in '95. It just sucks. Hopefully, surgery goes well, healing and rehab go well, and next year, Ben will come back better than ever. But this takes me very much back to my childhood when Bradshaw's career ended due to a similar elbow injury. I hope this past Sunday wasn't the end of an era. Godspeed, Ben. |

I was reading cases of athletes coming back from Tommy John surgery looking stronger and better than prior to. This might be a win/win situation. Mason gets valuable real game reps for a season and still make a playoff run and the team can evaluate the future at QB....Ben comes back and finishes out his career strong while the front office continues to strengthen the rest of the roster with Fitzpatrick being the start of it all. Not holding my breath but I'm hoping this injury lit a fire in the coaching staff and gave them an "Oh Shit" moment knowing that it's time to work a little harder on their end and not just rely (hope) Ben bails out their poor game planning. If this does not happen then we can only hope that Rooney has the balls to finally cut ties with the coaching staff and goes into total rebuild with a new coaching regime. Every one here can choose to cry that the season is over after ONLY two games but I will not go down without fighting and staying positive. Did any of you bail when Maddox went down and a young unproven QB from Miami of Ohio was forced into action sooner than expected??

I agree Tim Ben's injury reminded me of Bradshaw's injury as well. He came back way to soon after and was never the same. I am excited to see what Mason can do this year. The front office is giving him the rock lets see what he can do. It may be the end of an era with big ben. |

Quote:For obvious reasons, Tommy John surgery is not nearly as common with football players as it is with baseball players. However, former Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme is probably the best Tommy John surgery story there is in the NFL, as he had the procedure on his throwing elbow in 2007 and led the team to a 12-4 record and a division title the following year. This is promising!! https://larrybrownsports.com/football/to...ger/514588 |
