A true NT like a big snack or better.

Would it make all the worlds difference on defense? Seems like the d has not been stout since. I may be wrong but a bulldozer in the middle with skill on at least two downs would make all the worlds difference IMO.

We don't use a "true nose tackle" anymore.

Quote:Sporting Charts explains Nose Tackle Brady- 24-36 341 yards and 3 td's Wilson- 29-35 300 yards and 3 td's Just how much do you think a nose tackle would've helped? Besides, Jevon Hargrave is listed as our Nose tackle and he is no slouch. He only sees a handful of snaps because most of the time the defense is in pass defending packages. Like I said, it's a pass happy league now. If Big Snack played today he would hardly see the field.

Its the scheme: one-gap penetrating D-linemen versus the old school two-gappers (Aaron Smith, Snack, Keisel...) who ate up blockers and clogged the running lanes so the linebackers were free to make the plays. I haven't liked this scheme since Tomlin started moving the D in this direction. Way to subject to cutbacks and guys being out of position leading to big plays against.

The Steelers are no longer feared on the defense. |
