It's as simple as this: When the defense was hot early, the offense was stone cold. When the offense perked up a bit later, the defense couldn't get a stop to save their asses.
Rudolph looked decent when they actually let him throw the ball. He's not Ben yet, but Ben wasn't Ben either after his first game. Conner never had a fumbling problem at Pitt; why he has one now is a mystery. Regardless, he has to clean it up. he may not be our best running back, but he's our most experienced at the moment, and we still need him. I made my reputation on this board as a Tomlin defender, and I still am for the most part. His press conferences don't bother me like they do some people, because they're all just a bunch of noise. But he has to sit down with Fichtner and Butler and come up with a better game plan for next week. Any game plan at all would be a start. How a team can force five turnovers and still lose is a mystery to me. How an NFL team's offense could be as inept as the one we saw for most of this game is another. He's cleaned similar messes up in the past to the extent possible, but he always had Big Ben to help. Now he doesn't, and they're going to have an uphill climb just to keep Tomlin's record of non-winning seasons intact. I still don't think he WILL be fired at the end of the season, but another loss or two like this and I'll be eating more crow than I can possibly swallow. |

As a stand-up guy I'll apologize to the board for the Connor comment. I still hate his more than any Steeler player since Harvey Clayton. I can't stand him and the comment was over the line and in anger. But I saw a hard fought game slip away by an other example of his carelessness and lack of ball security. I can remember the members howling at Mendenhall's fumbles but at least he could gets some yards.
And to be sure I've always heard the term be "fruit-loop dingus". Not just dingus. Next - Minkah, #39! ![]()

I might be able to excuse the lack of production; "he gave it his best..." BUT you just cannot put the ball on the ground in the 4th quarter. No excuse for that! |

Maybe... but by his third start, Ben was taking over games and was clearly the biggest playmaker on offense. And he was a winner from his very first start. And, oh, by the way... Ben was a rookie. Rudolph has the benefit of a full season with the team under his belt. Ben won a Super Bowl in his second season. Ben was certainly on a better overall team, but let's not forget that pretty much the exact same team that Ben led to a 16-2 record went 6-10 the year before. So for the sake of Mason Rudolph, please don't make comparison's to Ben. Aside from the back and gold uniform, there are no comparisons. No disrespect to the young man, but he's got career backup written all over him. (09-23-2019, 10:33 AM)Garrett Garlits Wrote: How a team can force five turnovers and still lose is a mystery to me. Unless we go 2-14 (which won't happen), he has a built-in excuse. |

It's frustrating and if I were coaching the team, I'd probably give JaySam a chance to start as a result of Conner's carelessness. Conner is what he is. A hard worker, a great teammate, a solid locker room guy... but not an elite player. And clearly not a clutch player. He should be playing in a situational role, a supporting role. He shouldn't be the featured back. But it's not his fault Le'Veon Bell went off the deep end. He's certainly not deserving of "hate" and "F-U's." |

Jay-Sam is slower than Issac Redman and Betty White combined. The fact of the matter is we don't have an NFL grade RB on the roster. This is one of the position that should not be that tough to fill. Lowest 3rd down conversion rate of any Steeler team going back to 1991. I am afraid the chickens are coming home to roost for the fruit-loop dingus. Next - Minkah, #39! ![]() |

I have never heard of fruit loop dingus at all. It's always just been dingus. Dingus is an endearing term for a person that is affable yet never performing up to standards. A likeable enough fellow but just not extremely bright. So as the person that introduced dingus to this discussion it is simply dingus. Our head coach is likeable but not very good at what he does. You can see him standing on the sidelines watching with a clear lack of understanding and doing nothing with the other coaches. Just standing there with his headset on looking lost. A dingus. Not a bad sort just not very good at his job.

Offensively they started to get going in the second half but it was a turnover to late. Seriously guys, did you a expect the Steelers to go to San Fran and whoop a good 49er team in the shape our team is in?? |

Fruit Loop Dingus (per urban dictionary) - Noun - Someone who is nerdy and stupid who gets on your nerves.
Dingus - (per urban dictionary) - Noun - A person who occasionally pisses you off, but at the end of the day you still love them. They're usually your best friend who makes fun of you from time to time. Dingus can be used as a comment when they irritate you, or in a few cases, it can be endearing. Next - Minkah, #39! ![]() |

Tim should set forth an edict for all who post here: "Henceforth the one who currently bears the title of head coach of the Steelers shall be referred to as "The Dingus."

"Conner never had a fumbling problem at Pitt; why he has one now is a mystery."
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the 2019 San Fran defense hits a little harder than the 2016 Villanova Wildcats |
