I'll be more excited when/if he "reconciles". Rubs me the wrong way that he resents the team for encouraging him to get on with his life's work when they'd kept him a year longer than they should've already...

He was arguably the best defensive back we've ever had on the Steelers. He retired a Steeler. Let it go |

Right back at'cha! 1) I will when he does (and... my sincere apologies if he has and, I missed it... to both you and Troy...) 2) Greatest... not even close! Blount (the NFL changed the freakin' rules because of this guy!!! I'll say it again: they changed the freakin' rules because of him!!! ) > Woodson (I've never seen a DB take over a game like this guy could; against the Jim Kelly-led Bills on MNF comes to mind, just for starters) > Polamalu (a great player in his own right, and an absolute blast to watch in-action, can you say "... strip-sack of Joe Flacco in the AFC Championship...?") 3) again: I will when he does... and No. 3 at very best...! Rolllers: I know you've been around long enough to know what I'm talkin' about... C'mom Man! ![]()

Blout was a beast and they did change the rules because of him but he didn't have Troy's athleticism. Point is I don't think he has anything to reconcile with. He was a Steeler his whole career and was one of the greatest D backs ever. Blount, Woodson and Polamalu are peers. They're equals in my eyes, and I would not put any one of them above the others.
Troy was a game-changer, a human highlight reel and yet somehow, a remarkably humble human being. It's no coincidence that we went to 3 Super Bowls once Troy got here. His impact on the team is rivaled only by Ben Roethlisberger. The dude epitomizes greatness. |

Rules are constantly changing, Blount inspired the 5 yard rule, no doubt! These 3 played with different sets of rules.
IMO, Mel was the best at his position in his time, and the rule change didn't effect his play. He still looks like he could suit up and knock you silly. Woodson had more versatility, 1st team All-pro at corner and free safety, better than any player of his time. Unlike Deion, he made tackles. Troy was the best at his position in his time. A human highlight reel, for sure. Congrats, Troy!!! It's like comparing solid gold jewelry; rings, necklaces or bracelets, they're still 24k ...and the three are where they belong. It's all good. Team 'em with Donnie Shell, and you have a dream Steeler Hall of Fame defensive backfield. Add Jack Butler and it's an HOF nickel package. |

I'm glad he's in. My two favorite safeties ever (him and Atwater) now have well-deserved gold jackets.

For me they are all #1.... 1a, 1,b,1c....
A few other comments, Woodson was an all world athlete that was one heck of a baller. Blount changed the game and a lot of his impact was QBs just not bothering to throw in his direction. Troy was one of a kind, the other two were corners, but Troy made a boatload of plays for us. I think I’d rather compare Troy to Shell than Woody or Blount. |
