I have nothing but respect for Ryan but hope this means he will retire. The Steelers are a class organization and I'm sure they will always look out for him. I want nothing but a long and productive life for Ryan.
With the start of free agency on the doorstep, kicking off on Wednesday, March 18 at 4 p.m., moves continue to be made. And the latest for the Steelers is placing Ryan Shazier on the Reserve/Retired list. "Ryan's placement on the Reserve/Retired List serves as a matter of protocol to ensure his continued inclusion within our organization moving forward in his professional career," said Steelers General Manager/Vice President Kevin Colbert. Shazier spent the last two seasons on the team's Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List. Shazier suffered a spinal injury against the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 4, 2017 and underwent spinal stabilization surgery two days later. Shazier was the Steelers' first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the 15th overall selection, and he was voted to the Pro Bowl following the 2016 season. He started 41 of the 46 games he played in with 299 tackles, including 24 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, seven interceptions, 25 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. In five postseason starts, he had three tackles for a loss, two interceptions, four passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Since his injury Shazier has been honored by numerous organizations, including receiving the Ed Block Courage Award, voted on by his teammates, for the strength and courage he has shown through his recovery.
