I can't help but chuckle every time I watch this clip. Week in and week out, Jack Lambert was absolutely ON FIRE for the game of football. A blazing f-ing inferno. And when the stakes were high, Lambert somehow ratcheted his level of rage even higher.
In the 1979 regular season finale vs. the Bills, the Steelers needed a victory to win the division and secure homefield advantage. This ferocious tackle by Lambert, who picks up and body slams former teammate Mike Collier like a rag doll, is a concise resume of the butt-kicking the Steelers delivered that day as they steamrolled toward their 4th Super Bowl title. |

That is why Jack is my all time favorite Steeler. That and he is from NE Ohio like me. Also we both went to KSU.
I love the time he took matters in his own hands as well on the late hit by the Bengals on Kruzek. Next - Minkah, #39! ![]() |

He also gave it pretty good to Cliff Harris in the Super Bowl. The ref was going to toss him and Jack said you can’t do that, this the Super Bowl.

He was definitely the emotional leader of the defense. Lambert took no prisoners.
My mom went to Kent State, too. ![]() ![]() |

Lambert was a beast. He wouldn't last a whole game in today's NFL. He was no pansy

Yep, heart and soul of the team, which is saying something on a team with 10 Hall of Fame players.

Sigh - we could use a Jack Lambert on the team.
Well, on second thought, no - we don't Not in TODAYS NFL. the 70's defense would be a cascade of 15-yard flags |

I was watching a special on Chuck Noll (I think) and they were interviewing Lynn Swann. Swann said Lambert rarely talked to anyone in the locker-room, usually just scowl at them. Swann said one day Lambert stopped by his locker and said: "I should have been #1 Swann and you should have been #2." Then he just walked away. Swann was taken #1 and Lambert #2 in the '74 draft. What a great story. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next - Minkah, #39! ![]()

Yes, I've heard that Lynn Swann story about Lambert. ![]() Dwight White talked about Lambert's disposition, too. "Lambert was difficult. With everybody." ![]() White was notoriously one of the nastiest guys on the team, so it really means something coming from him. |
