NFL salaries have been something outside of my reality for a long, long time.
Minimum salaries in 2019: Rookie: $495,000 1 year: $570,000 2 years: $645,000 3 years: $720,000 4-6 years: $806,000 7-9 years: $930,000 10+ years: $1,030,000 NFL average salary is slightly under $3m/year. - Such is the salary of the entertainers. This part of the year is the one I find the most discouraging; the raw business part of it. I don't want to hear the trope of "love of the game", and "Love of Team 'x' or Team 'y'", or "Just want to win a championship" For the vast majority of the players, the motivation is the exact same as it is for the vast majority of the owners: Money$ The one year, ROOKIE minimum is more than I made *combined* in 20 years in the United States Army from 1986 - 2006 ($430,261), including two combat tours and four overseas deployments. The arguments of "they're worth it" or "well, the careers are short" - fall on deaf ears in this house. So, all that being said, it'll be interesting to see where loyalties lay, and who winds up where in the fantasyland of NFL football. I think about AB and Le'Veon. Both played in a SuperBowl: AB got the ring. His stat line for 2020 was 45rec for 483yards and 4TDs - an afterthought of his seasons with Pittsburgh. LeVeon's line was was 82 rushes for 328 yards. He was forgotten in the SB, with 2 touches for 6 yards. He won't be with KC next year and his career is basically over. TJ Watt left Houston and is favored to go to Cleveland. This is supposedly for a SB run? Whatever. He belongs anywhere but Houston as much as Franco needed to be a Seahawk. No, I don't have a point. |

Going to Cleveland to make a Super Bowl Run??? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Man, please... stop. No more. My sides are killing me. ![]() Sorry, old habits die hard. ![]() The stupidity of AB and Bell is bottomless. At least in AB's case, I'm pretty sure he's crazy. But Le'veon? Man, these guys had it MADE in Pittsburgh. They would've made more money, and they would've been beloved by the fans. You just wonder how in the world they threw that all away? The arrogance behind it is staggering. Agreed on JJ Watt, too. They should've found a way to work it out together in Houston. That kind of mutual loyalty rarely happens anymore. It's a shame. Thankfully, I think it will happen with Ben. |

Well, if you are concerned about how much players are making, what about the owners? Art Rooney started the Steelers on $2,500. It’s current value now stands at $3 BILLION dollars, most of it accumulated as untaxed capital gains. To add further insult to injury, how many owners threaten the home towns of moving unless significant public subsidies are coughed up. The truth is in the final analysis, the NFL has only on asset, and that is us, the fan. We are the ones attending games, buying merchandise, following articles and internet hits. I don’t feel embarrassed hanging here as I really appreciate all the work that Tim goes through to keep this site that at this point is an important historical treasure of videos unavailable elsewhere. |

You scared me there for a moment. it is JJ Watt not TJ Watt that may go to the Browns.
I don't think he will end up there, my money is he signs with the Packers. Next - Minkah, #39! ![]() |

To add further insult to injury, how many owners threaten the home towns of moving unless significant public subsidies are coughed up. That's just it - the fan is not the focus of the NFL and not the main source of income. Television rights and corporate sponsorships are the lions share of the income. Those are the constituents they kowtow to. As long as the networks have eyes on glass, they'll continue paying the NFL. I'm not begrudging the business for making money. the NFL or the owners have never been secretive in their motives. It's the players and the agents that typically bother me. The immature hypocrisy. Granted, most are truly kids. Even "Old, ancient" Brady is only 42. The majority don't play beyond 30. I guess after over 40 years of being a conscious fan, I get tired of the "Loyalty to the team and city" trope followed immediately by a chase after cash. Tim nailed it above. I bet "Imma Need" wishes he took the $12m-per-year Pittsburgh offered. He'd still probably be starting in the backfield and working on a possible HOF legacy, instead of being an aftermarket joke leaving KC. JuJu Smith-Schuster is stating, 'I don't want to leave' Pittsburgh - we'll see how that works out: https://www.nfl.com/news/juju-smith-schu...pittsburgh |

I'm not quite sure what is so funny. I wish RexDawg was here to back me up on this but by all accounts ALL Cleveland knows is winning... perennial champs prior to the AFL NFL merger. Granted... this new merger has thrown a few "kinks" into the system.... any day now... any day... Seek the Way, the Truth, and the Life! |

All kidding aside they have a decent team and maybe they are on the right track. 3 decades of drafting in the top 10 has to pan out sooner or later. Next - Minkah, #39! ![]() |
