I'm not sure I understand this but I guess Nelson is upset because the Steelers signed JuJu. F-him if this is true, team-mates don't act like this.

Hey Steve - Don't let the door hit 'ya.

Some big breaking news out of Pittsburgh. And it’s a bit of a shocker. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers are giving CB Steven Nelson permission to seek a trade.
Quote:Steelers have granted permission to starting CB Steven Nelson to seek a trade, per source. Nelson, who turned 28 in January, has been graded as one of the league’s top cornerbacks in recent seasons by @PFF.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 19, 2021

Nelson is entering the final year of his deal. He’s lobbied for an extension. And now, he may be lobbying to move his way out of Pittsburgh.
He retweeted this PFF tweet passing along Schefter’s news, all but confirming the story.

Nelson signed a three-year, $25.5 million deal with the team in March of 2019. Trading him would clear over $8 million in cap space.
Quote:Trading Steven Nelson would result in the Steelers clearing $8.25M in cap space prior to roster displacement. A dead money charge in 2021 of $6.17M would also occur if cut or traded. #Steelers

He’s started 30 games over the past two years with Pittsburgh, intercepting three passes. He’s been among their most consistent DBs, especially in 2019, but his days with the Steelers now seem to be numbered.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirms that the Steelers will either trade or cut Nelson.
Quote:With stilll-#Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster staying home and making $8M, PIT will either cut or trade CB Steven Nelson, source said. He’s due $8.25M this season, but is headed elsewhere.

Developing story.

Can someone explain this logic to me... A cornerback is upset that a wide receiver signed for a pay cut. This must be that common core logic I've been hearing about.

I guess he wanted an extension - NOW.

He did pretty much the same thing in KC and the next year they won the Super Bowl.

If we can trade him it will clear about $14 million off the books. Either way he has played his last game for the Steelers.

We want players - not hostages - coach Tomlin.

Tomlin, a player's coach, will likely have issues with another disgruntled player. Draft choices are the best route for a cash strapped team.

Um.... Correct me if I'm wrong? Trade him for what? Locker room towels? Almost every game I watched he was following receivers into the end zone in blown coverage?

I thought he was terrible. This guy may have had a few interceptions. > But his coverage blows chunks. He probably wasn't in their future plans anyways.

He picked the worse possible time to demand an extension with JuJu taking a massive pay it to stay. Nelson is toast and this will free up about 8 million dollars to go after a Kyle Fuller or Adorree Jackson.

For what it’s worth Nelson was the 11th rank CB in the NFL last season.

I believe Nelson thought he had the Steelers by the short-hairs. He soon found out that wasn't the case.

I am glad he pulled this stunt now and not after the draft or before the season. However, if he had done it earlier who knows maybe we could have made a play to keep Bud. This guy is a malcontent, he did the same thing with KC. I's like a 3rd round pick, but we may not get much now.

Hey Steve - Don't let the door hit 'ya.

Re: Chucktown      - Nelson

How about this for thought? Besides Nelson getting burned on a lot of plays.  The last Cleveland Playoff game The Steelers were down 28 to 0.  Big Ben had an impressive comeback scoring 3 straight touchdowns to make it 35 to 23.

Nelson dropped a pick 6 on the 30 yard line. It was clearly rite to him and no one in front of him for 30 yards. Would have changed the game big time  "35 to 30" With momentum on our side. And our defense stopping them 3 straight times.

Instead Cleveland went on to score a touch down.  Nelson wasn't work a spit bucket.

I don't know about that but he was rated one of the best CB's in the NFL. He was ranked #11 out of 64 or so.

The thing is these type of guys are never happy and you can't count on them. I'd rather build the team thru the draft instead of making anoth team's problems are own. Maybe the Cardinals may take a chance on him, not sure of anyone else.

The Steelers didn't buckle to Webby, Rod, Merriweather,or even Franco. They damn sure ain't going to buckle to this guy.

League Rating means nothing in my Book. Look at TJ  Watt.   I watched every single Steelers game last season. Nelson was a big disappointment following receivers all over the place and getting burned. Sure he got some INT'S,

But this guy on film sucks!  Many Steelers fans agree. I cant even begin to see how he was rated.

He has played his last down for the Steelers. When Cam Sutton came in for the 4 games he missed I don't think the defense suffered much.

I don't care for these "me first" type of guys. He signed the contract and he should have lived up to it. Screw him.

The Steelers just terminated this clown's contract. Would have been good to get something in return but it is probably addition thru subtraction.
