Tomlin Signs Ext. " No more Superbowls?

Tomlin signs a 3 year extension...  Yes, so this means we have a chance at AFC North titles.   Because you know.... Those are better then Super Bowl titles

You don't have to like this signing.  Obviously.  It is what it is. Tomlin understands that The Standard Is The Standard.  He’s A Competitor.  Don’t Live In Our Fears.  We know 9-7 *is* that standard.  He coaches above the neck - and constantly over .500% - because, you know - that's the standard.  We’re not going to make excuses, he helps us know more about ourselves - and we're excited about that.

Chuck Noll: 209–156–1 (.572)
Bill Cowher: 161–99–1 (.619)
Mike Tomlin: 153–86–1 (.640)

Granted, Tomlin has had a bonafide Hall of Fame QB his entire career (except for 2019 after Ben's injury), and both Noll (16-8) and Cowher (12-9) have better postseason records than Tomlin (8-8). But it's hard to argue with Tomlin's success.

I do understand (and share, at times) the frustration. The post-season swoon has become far too predictable over the last 10 years. I have to believe this team should've managed at least one more Lombardi during that time, and the embarrassment at the hands of Cleveland last year borders on unforgiveable. 

Oh, well. No sense in dwelling on it. It would take a EPIC collapse to end Tomlin's career in Pittsburgh, and I don't want that to happen. 

Hoping Ben has a phenomenal year. He's still great enough to get us to the promised land.

I read where Tomlin's signing was to provide continuity after the Ben years. makes sense but do I read into that it is his last contract?

I know the constant Cowher vs. Tomlin debate but I will stay with Noll. He has 4 times as many Lombardi's as the other 2 and inherited a perennial sad sack team. I wonder what his percentage is if you lop off his 1-13 start?

What is Noll's winning percentage after the 1974 draft? He inherited a team with a losing persona and empty talent cupboard.

He built the team from ground up and installed the "Steeler Way".

Maybe the new contract has performance clauses. Like better challenge decisions, half time adjustments, in game tactics, etc. If the goal is maintaining the standard of never having a losing season with a HOF QB, well that's just sad.

Agreed about Noll. Not only the 1-13 start, but how 'bout those horrible '80s with the likes of Cliff Stoudt, Mark Malone, David Woodley, Scott Campbell, Todd Blackledge, Steve Bono and Bubby Brister at QB? I mean, Brister -- BRISTER -- is the cream of the crop in that group. You can make the case that it's Noll's own fault for passing on Marino, but I wouldn't wish those QBs on my worst enemy.

Yep. I'm confident Ben would have 3 (probably 4), but we'll obviously never know.

Truer words never have been spoken. Put Ben with Cowher and he would have 4 maybe 5 SB wins. Agreed, we would have never lost to Dallas.

I still don't know why we were throwing the ball before the last pick. We were ramming it down a tired and exhausted Dallas defense led by Bam Morris. There was no reason to throw, run the ball and run the clock. I've watched that drive numerous times.
