I saw this daily post on another site and thought I would share. The author is trying to make an all-Steeler non-drafted team much like the Sports Illustrated did for the entire NFL (which is a joke). The S.I. article (of course they did) omitted Donnie Shell.

Watching some of these old clips makes me wish they would bring back the block numbers. They were badass.

Anyway I will try and update this daily as my work schedule permits.

Offense

Alex Kazora is the man when it comes to breaking down Steeler football, a combination of pointing out specific parts of the game of football, their impact, but in an interesti ng manner. I’ve been a fan of his for a long long time. Those of us that frequent SteelersDepot are fortunate to have him on that site. I just hope Dave B over there can afford to keep him for a long time. Alex no doubt is going places. He’s that good.

I got to thinking about this over the weekend and I believe Devlin Hodges should have gotten honorable mention. I believe undrafted QB should have been Mike Tomczak. I know he started with the Bears but played more games for the Steelers than than Hodges did.

Thoughts?????

Agreed, Tomczak over Duck Hodges by a country mile. T-Zak had a 15-year NFL career and started 73 games (27 of them during his 7 years as a Steeler). Duck's "career" lasted season.

I had forgotten Tomzcak was undrafted. Blows my mind he didn't top the list at QB, but perhaps the author is only counted players who were original Steelers free agents?

That is the only thing I can figure. The player (in this case T-zcak) would have had to be undrafted from college directly by the Steelers.

Otherwise he smokes the Duck.

Agreed. I was also undrafted by the Steelers... and Duck barely (BARELY) beats me.  Laugh

Hodges wasn't as bad as you all are making him out to be. If he had a bit more arm strength, more reps during camp (he was a late camp body add on) he would of stood a better chance.
He was initially a practice squad guy who was unexpectedly called up to hold a clip board then thrown to the wolves as the number 1.
Duck did a pretty admirable job and started 6 games winning half of them during a disastrous year with the Ben injury early on and no run game to help him. Heck at one point he was even chosen over Mason when Rudolph was given the green light to play again after Garrett's attempted murder on him.
As of now he is still in the league with the Rams and if he is lucky will have a long career in the NFL.

Good longshot story and I hope he sticks around and possibly has some more success playing in the future.

There is the All-time undrafted list of Pittsburgh Steelers. Pretty impressive. I will keep an eye out if the author adds kicker/ punter.

Would the placekicker be Jeff Reed?

I' not sure if they'll be follow-up articles or not but it appears the team has been selected. The last article on specialist does elude to the fact that the player must be undrafted directly by the Steelers. With that being said the author does say he "bent" the rules a bit.

Enjoy!
