Yet another team caves to the 'woke" left 3%ers. The Cleveland baseball team will no longer be known as the "Indians" after 2021. They have chosen the moniker "Guardians". I guess the "dians" stays the same.

Never an Cleveland Indian fan but growing up in NE Ohio they had a great fanbase.

By the way, what are they "guarding", the mistake by the lake"?

To these "woke" sports organizations the only ones that don't count are the fans.

They missed a golden opportunity to name the team "The Flaming Cuyahogas," named for their polluted river that repeatedly burst into flames during the '70s.

Coincidentally, this was also the name of my one-and-only ill-fated fantasy football team back in 2003.  Embarassed

I read today that there's a men's roller derby outfit in Cleveland with that name. They can, if it was trademarked, stop the move or at least make it pretty expensive to make the change. One would think the team/organization would have spent the bucks to research it before the announcement. I hope they fall flat on their face, suffer through the memes and are forced to go back to their non woke moniker.

I was just getting ready to post that. The link is below. You would have thought these "woke" geniuses would have looked into this. The team is in the SAME city.

Cleveland is Cleveland.

Hilarious.

But the question I have is do the Indians really object to the name because the team has been mostly a mediocre team? I mean, we still call Indians Indians?

Yeah, I can see where the logo, Chief Wahoo could be offensive, but what they should have done was just changed the logo to a call center customer service rep and left the name the same.

It never stops. The "wokesters" are now targeting the KC Chiefs and have made them retire "War Paint" the horse.

It must be nice to be in the "woke" generation, where all you do is criticize everything and everyone and not having achieved a damn thing on your own.

Actually the "Indians" were named in honor of one of their very best players, who happened to be Indian. I guess that doesn't matter.

At my age even with my hearing aids in, I cannot understand most of the people that are on help lines.  I have given up even calling
