It's Browns week. I don't know how to process this, because I don't know which team will show up on either side.

#1  No Baker Mayfield. But the back up Case Keenum is not bad.

#2 Steelers defense needs to show up big and early to create problems for Keenum. Not let him get comfortable.

#3 If the Steelers defense shows up. Big Ben and co should only need 24 points to win.

     Final  - Steelers 24 Browns 20

14-10.

No clue who will have which side, but the Brownies are beat up, and we're coming off a bye. We *should* win this.

I dunno.. if Wormley plays the majority of defensive snaps, Chubb just might set a single game rushing record.

ILBs rebound, Nagee has a great day and the Steeler win 24-20.

Well, here it is: The most important game of the season.

There may be other important games to come this year... but not if we don't win this one.

Win, and we soldier on. Lose, and I think the gap in the division becomes too wide to overcome.

I don't have a strong feel one way or the other, but I expect a battle. The Browns have a propensity for going for it on 4th down in stupid situations. Cleveland has left a lot of crucial points on the field this year, foregoing short field goal attempts multiple times in multiple games, coming away empty.

If they do this today, we win. Here's hoping Ben gets win #25 over Cleveland today.

Hope you're right score, Cali. You nailed it exactly last week.  Thumbsup

I haven't been paying much attention this week, but I think I saw Mayfield is now supposed to play. Here's hoping it's ego-driven and he's not really ready. His ability to extend plays makes him dangerous.

How  are you feeling about the gap now? IMO, the Steelers aren’t “there” yet but expect further improvements as the year goes on. As long as they can stay with in shouting distance, they might make the playoffs yet.

It feels good to live to fight another day. Thumbsup

We had to have this one. For that matter, I think we also need the next two to have an chance at the post season. These are games we "should" win on paper. I don't expect either one to be easy, but we've gotta win 'em to keep stay alive during the buzz saw second half of our season.

Just gotta keep getting better.

The most impressive thing today was the heart the players showed down the stretch, on both sides of the ball. It was a clutch road performance.

Let me say this, and I hope I am wrong: I think both the Steelers and the Browns are not SuperBowl contenders this year. I can see every AFC North making the playoffs this year somehow or another, but at this point in time, I feel that none of the four will make it all the way to the big game. Baltimore will have the best chance, but LaMar can't get it done in the postseason. The Steelers and the Browns were evenly matched yesterday, but neither team looks championship bound at this point. Again, I hope that I am wrong!

Totally agree with you. We're not legit Super Bowl contenders right now. Is it possible we could become contenders? I suppose. But I think the only way it happens is massive overachievement (which can and does happen from time to time).

Seeing how hard the team played vs. adversity after Boswell went out was the biggest bright spot to me. That's the kind of thing it takes. They knew they had to dig a little deeper, and they did.

I think Ben being near the end of his career also serves as an "edge" to inspire the team, just as Bettis did in 2005. Yes, I fully understand that the 2005 team was much more talent-laden than the 2021 team. However, I believe players will play harder for Ben given his situation, and that's an edge a lot of other teams don't have. In a league built for parody, that kind of emotional edge has real value.

But we have a LONG way to go. Sneaking into the playoffs still seems like an outside shot to me, given the brutality of the remainder of our schedule. But it can certainly be done. If the line continues to gel, if the team stays healthy, if the rookies continue to perform and improve, if the receiving corps suddenly wakes up?

There's enough there to do it. This is a young team, but it's a team with a winning tradition with enough veteran leaders who KNOW how to win.

The game wasn't as close as the score would indicate. The refs and Tomlin (with the fake FG) took points off the board.

Overall I am pleased with the direction we're headed and the play of the rookies. We are starting (4) rookies on offense, they are getting better every week.

Anything can happen, it is what team peaks at the right time and who is healthy at the right time.

If this keeps up I wouldn't be surprised if Ben is back next season.

Great win for the Steelers but can we fire Tomlin, or at least make a trade- Tomlin for some draft picks? Couldn't Tomlin get us a #1 pick? I thought the fake field goal was outrageous and cost us our kicker. Big mistake.
It reminded me of the 1980 Steeler/Bengal game in Pittsburgh when Punter Colquitt ran for a 1st down but was hit and lost for the game. Bradshaw had to punt and it hurt. Also, Colquitt was the field goal holder and Stoudt was forced to hold during the missed field goal at the end of the game. If Colquitt was not hurt, Steelers probably win the game. I had watched part of this game this past weekend- great site. Also watched the 4th quarter of the 1980 Steelers/Browns game- what an ending! Too bad they lost the following week in Buffalo, too many injuries.

This would be a little complicated:
  • Tomlin "has never had a losing season"
  • Every pundit rants about hoe "great" he is
  • If the Rooney's fire him, trade him, do anything other than publicly agree with the pundits (see #2), they're admitted two-faced racists who violated their own Old-Man's Rule
Firing/trading Tomlin is lose/lose

I agree, it would be hard to do.  I was also very upset earlier this year when they threw that pass to D. Johnson on the last play of a game the Steelers had already lost.  Johnson was hurt, fortunately, it was not a major injury.  Tomlin does not make good choices and lost too many games over the years that the Steelers had no business losing.
