The Ravens will be very very happy to see Ben retire. He's been a thorn in their side. On the flip side, he will be missed in the Burgh. The city may not see another like him. Ever.

Muth and Harris made key plays down the stretch. Great for rookies to get that experience.

This was maybe, at least for me, the most satisfying win. In Balt, shattered their playoff dream, put the Steelers a step away from their own playoff spot and, likely for the last time, Ben put a dagger into the heart of the beast.

That's what makes me nervous about tonight's Chargers/Raiders game. Ties are a little more common with the new overtime rules, so it's not as much of a long shot as I'd like it to be, especially since the Chargers can get in with a win OR a tie. If an overtime situation happens, they could potentially run out the clock with their possession and still get in.

P.S. -- The last time any team had two or more ties in one season was the 1973 season when the Browns, Chiefs, Packers, and Broncos all had two a piece.

By the way, I have very little regard for Mike Tomlin's performance this year, but I'd like to give him kudos for one thing today:

He bucked the current NFL trend of going for it on 4th down, which I think killed both Cleveland and Baltimore this year. You play the odds. Tomlin's decision to punt on 4th and 1 near midfield late in the 4th quarter and not allow a short field for a Justin Tucker FG attempt was HUGE. He also kicked the FG on our first drive (albeit only after a false start pushed us from 4th and 1 to 4th and 6) which proved to be the difference in the game.

This is the most unlikely playoff appearance since 1989, although it's only happening because of the extra game and extra playoff spot this year. If it was last year, we'd be sitting home. Glad their in, but this isn't Chuck Noll somehow doing it with Bubby Brister and Merrill Hoge and a bunch of unknown players; it's a team who underperformed despite fielding a Hall of Fame QB and the likes of Najee, TJ and Cam.

One last thought: Matt Canada? Go f--- yourself.  Laugh

Praying for a blowout in the Chargers/Raiders game. I don't care who wins.

That said, anyone wanna bet that game won't go into flippin' OT? 'Cause you almost KNOW it will. Eyes Laugh

My nerves won't take it...

This is probably the first time I've ever had a kind thought about Jacksonville. I've hated them -- HATED THEM -- ever since they upset us in their first-ever game in '96. I hate their uniforms, I hate their players, I hate their coaches (even Urban Meyer, despite my Ohio State roots). The Jags used to be a great rival in the old AFC Central, always very physical.

I've gone out of my way to get tickets to games against the Jags (5) because I hate them so much. The only other team I've seen the Steelers play in person as often is Baltimore (also 5 times).

But today? I am a Jaguars fan. Rockon  Very thankful for the unexpected win.

Screw the jags - though I’m Hapoy Lawrence got a win to close out his rookie season - and always happy to see the Model-Runaway-Colts lose

I almost wish, I say again, ALMOST wish there were a tie tomorrow. To have Ben finish his career on a winning note, even without the playoffs, especially against the Ravens would be a nice bow to his career. The thing that I fear the most is a Dan Marino-like disastrous end to his career...62-7 loss to the Jaguars.

Would like to see one more playoff win from Ben and then maybe a dignified even if painful bow out ala the 1989 loss to Denver.

I would wish for a Super Bowl win, but that's hoping too much. Even wishing for a playoff win would probably be too much.

I can't believe the Steelers actually managed over 20 points per game this year. Even the 1992 Steelers scored less than that (with a much better defense). Granted it was a different time. Still.

Another amazing thought is that this is the second-worst Steeler defense in my lifetime, at least in terms of points allowed. Only the 1988 Steelers were worse. It's a tribute to the Steelers that in an era of offensive football, we haven't given up 400 points since. Still, we came awfully close this year.

(Just did a quick check. We are the only team since 1989 not to give up 400 points in a year. Only the Patriots have a similar streak, having given up 446 in 1990. Truly amazing.)

What a game! I went to watch it at Rock Bottom Brewery with Steeler fans... I had Migraine to start the game. And ended with a super-Brain battering headache at the end but didn't care. Was happy to see Ben's season extended.

I'll be honest I didn't think we had a chance in hell before today's games with Jacksonville and Baltimore. I think we will be playing the Chiefs again?

I understand the sentiment, but it's always better to play on and have that chance. You never know what can happen.

Is it likely we'll get slaughtered by the Chiefs? Yes. But is it a foregone conclusion? No. Stranger things have happened. Not much stranger, but it's not impossible. Maybe COVID makes 'em sit a bunch of players? Not hoping for that, but it's an example of craziness that could happen.

I'll tell you this... if the Chargers and Raiders tie tonight, I quit.  Laugh I mean, really, what's to prevent them from colluding to do so, since they'd both be in if it happens, right?

Crazy situation.  Pi_freak

Division rivalry, so I don't see that happening unless the game is in overtime and maybe one team is down at their own 10 with 2 minutes to go. In that case, they might just consider running out the clock.

If the Chargers get a big PI call on the Raiders on this drive, you know the fix is in.

Man, you can feel it. Raiders can't get off the field, the Chargers are going to get a TD. Then they'll trade FGs in overtime and the NFL gets what they want. Eyes

If the Chargers hadn't made those 4th downs, a flag would've come out to make sure. This is like pro wrestling nonsense.

Raiders are just gonna run. Get into FG range and kick it. Then the Chargers will drive down, eat the clock, and kick it for the tie.

They won’t care but the NFL will lose any integrity it has left.
