Well, time to retire my #7 jersey, which was sent to me by Bill Wischmann and I have worn for almost 18 years. Thanks for the memories, Ben!

Ben will retire and tomlin will be the coach for as long as he desires. That's depressing for most fans. At least for those who can look beyond "neva" and understand just how empty tomlin's suit is.
The city had two great runs. Terry and Ben. Lots of great memories and 6 titles. I believe, if the Rooney's hired a competent coach, a few more Lombardi's would have come their way. Only the goat barred the door. Well the goat and belicheat. I had a major life change this season and turned my focus onto football for the diversion. I don't think, now that Ben is gone, that will work next year. I can't tolerate tomlin and the BS he spews. At least there's the SEC, the beach and 18 holes to play most days of the year. God bless all and best wishes for a healthy new year. |

It was a brutal season, but in my opinion, it was a season of over achievement, frustration, disappointment, joy, and sadness all wrapped into one. Kind of a microcosm of life.
Another year of Steeler football in the books, and a new era awakens. To those that will be signing off for a while, I enjoyed our interactions and hope this site continues on into the future. |

My score and prediction in the beginning thread was just about spot on. We played tough the first half then gave way to a mad house of scoring... Crappy way to end the year.
I wish the Steeler's would clean house on coaches. We know it wont happen. This is not the Steeler football that we've all known in the past and or respected. That Code is gone.

Gone - are the Rooney ways of the Past. Art Jr is just not the same as Art senior or Dan. We are Screwed... I don't see why they should keep Canada or Butler. Can anyone here shine some light on this? |

Even though we knew it was Ben's last game, we had to turn it off at the half. We simply couldn't take it anymore. My dad was the one who taught me at an early age never to give up on the hometown team, but the only game I remember us watching from beginning to end this year was Ben's last game at Heinz Field. All of the others we either turned off altogether or followed on RedZone. That's what happens when your team's defensive scheme is as soft as a warm cookie and your offense is as dynamic as iced molasses.
I'm not one who makes fun of Tomlin's accomplishments; September games count as much as February games, and fifteen winning regular seasons is a much rarer accomplishment than winning a world championship (someone does that every year, remember) and should be acknowledged positively. The problem with Tomlin, especially lately, is that he can't or won't tell his coaches, "Hey guys, this game plan isn't working. We need a different one, and we can't wait until halftime to use it. Matt, no more two-yard passes. Everything at least to the sticks. We have a stud running back; use him. Keith, tell your guys to cover tighter and make sure they don't miss so many tackles." There's more, of course, but you get my point. I forget who said this, but someone smart did: In the NFL, the coordinators and position coaches coach the players, but the head coach coaches the coaches. He approves the game plans they put together and teach in practice. and he fact that he's let such incompetence go on as long as it has is disturbing. We'll see what he has to say, along with Art, in the coming days, but they have to fire Canada at the absolute least. Butler may be retiring anyway , and should be encouraged to do so. Those of you who say that the above moves are useless without firing Tomin may be right, but coaches with his record from September through January simply don't ger fired, especially by an organization that unabashedly values stability and social consciousness as highly as they would seventh and eighth Lombardi Trophies respectively. Have a nice winter!
