Hope nobody minds, but I have questions regarding the Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher hirings. Who were the other candidates besides Noll for the Steeler job in 1969? I read Joe Paterno turned down the position. Were there any other candidates besides Paterno?
Same question regarding Cowher. I imagine Tony Dungy got some consideration? Any others?

The two I remember along with Bill Cowher to be interviewed to replace Chuck Noll was Joe Greene and Dave Wannestadt. There may have been a few others.

I think Joe Paterno was in the mix for the Steeler coaching job in 1969. I'm not sure about this, but I think I heard the Steelers wanted Joe-PA, but he decided on coaching college instead. |
