1991 Steelers 17 vs Browns 10

Farewell to the Emperor! An opportunistic Steelers defense gives Chuck Noll a win over the Belichick-coached Browns in Noll's final game. Bubby Brister completes only 7 of 26 passes for 113 yds, but one of his completions is a nice little slant to speedy Dwight Stone who picks up a fantastic block from Louis Lipps and takes it 65 yards for the score in the 3rd quarter. And while Brister's counterpart Bernie Kosar throws for 335 yards, Cleveland's 5 turnovers (3 INTs) are too much to overcome. Gary Anderson has an uncharacteristically bad day, going 1-4 on FGs. Thankfully, CB Richard Shelton has the game of his life by snagging the only 3 interceptions of his career, the last of which he returns 57 yards to put the Steelers up 17-7. Lot's of postgame material. A special thanks to Keith "Crash" Froehlich for generously providing us with this historic game.

No tape shaking for you?  I couldn't get it to stop shaking for me.  Awesome.

Look at Joe Greene yell "Fuck You" to the fans at 153:40.  Wow!

Same here.... no Joe Greene, no expletives.

C'mon, man, I want some expletives!!!  Pi_sharpteeth

P.S. -- Nope, no video shaking. Plus, I crop out the interference lines at the bottom of videos. Nearly all of them do it and it's annoying as hell.  Laugh

Watch when Greene and Bubby hug after the Stone TD. It's a replay.

Not only the last game with Chuck Noll, also the last game for Louis Lipps.

Lipps was a cut in 1993 camp. I thought he should have made the team.

Joe Greene's last game on the coaching staff too. I think the ONLY one who survived was Dick Hoak.

Can anyone shed any light on Chuck Noll's resignation ?

Did he resign voluntarily or was he told he needed to step aside "voluntarily" since they couldn't fire him outright ?

I mean, look at the fallout at Tom Landry getting fired. (What many don't know is that Jerry Jones did NOT intend to fire Landry but only did so as it was a condition of the sale of the team.)

The popular version is Dan Rooney wanted him back, but he had to fire Joe Walton. But Noll said he was done.

Ed Bouchette, with no real info provided or source to back him up, has said Noll was pushed out.

I think Bouchette is FOS.

Why did they want Joe Walton gone ?

I always thought Walton was a pretty good coach. The Jets had some good teams in the 80's with Ken O'Brien and Company.

(Remember that epic Arena Football like shootout with the Jets and Dolphins back in 86' ?)

Walton's offense was complicated, mostly had to do with the amount of terminology and length of a simple play-call.

Once Green signed in 1990 the offense looked pretty good. But injuries, and Walton's inability to be flexible doomed them in 1991. Walton like Neil O'Donnell too. So that wasn't the issue.
