Paid below average for a starting left tackle. The team caught a break with this deal. He's developed into a quality starter. Tuit is next. That would leave Bell as the only major distraction this year. He's a great player but his personal valuation of his worth is just out of wack with the league and this team's available cash.

Totally agree. He has developed into a very good, but not great lineman. With the quality of those around him though he is more than capable. High character and lunch pail work ethic seals the deal for me. He is an awesome fit as a Steeler. (and of course, he stands for the National Anthem to boot!)

Great signing and I'm not too sure you guys are judging him correctly. Dude started all 16 games last year and was a key part of a Ben career low 17 sacks. A leader on and off the field, a leader in the locker-room as well. The players look up to AV.

IMHO a very good LT, underrated much as John Jackson was.

I definitely rate him highly. Didn't mean to sell him short. He's a very important part of our line and I'm REALLY pleased we wrapped him up.

At the same time, he isn't a Pouncey or a Faneca.

He gets Ben hit a little more than he should but $6 mil per is about right. Joe Thomas makes $8 mil, and AV isn't anywhere near that talent level.

Also needs to cut down on his penalties.

AV had 8 penalties last season, 6 that were accepted. 2 illegal formations (refused), 3 holds, and 3 false starts, for a whopping total of 45 yards. I'll take that from my LT that started all 16 games and my franchise QB was sacked a career low 17 times.

If I'm doing the math right, that means Villanueva was our second-most penalized O-lineman, behind DeCastro (12). Pouncey and Foster each had 2.
