1993 Steelers 23 vs Bills 0 MNF

An absolutely flawless game both offensively and defensively for the Steelers on Monday Night as the Steelers deliver the first of many Buffalo thumpings to come at Three Rivers Stadium. Pittsburgh physically dominates the Bills from start to finish, owning a 44:51-15:09 edge in time of possession and outgaining Buffalo 400 to 157. Thurman Thomas is a non-factor and Jim Kelly has a miserable first half before getting knocked out of the game on the final play before halftime. Frank Reich fares no better in the second half in the face of a relentless Blitzburgh pass rush as the Steelers pitch a shutout. Game features Gary Jones' bone-jarring sideline hit on Don Beebe at the 96:11 mark.

I remember this game very well. When they destroyed Buffalo, a lot of people were making the red hot Steelers the favorites to go to the Super Bowl. The following week, they got destroyed by Denver 37-13 and they barely backed their way into the playoffs as a wild card that year. Foster getting hurt seemed to help derail that season.

Yeah, Foster getting hurt pretty much killed that 1993 team despite having a dominating O-Line in 1993.
And as in 1992 their complete and total lack of a decent receiving-core really screwed them.
Eric Green was dominant but they really, really missed that good, outside WR.
Jeff Graham was solid and became a much better WR in Chicago after he left Pittsburgh.
The weird part about that 1993 team was that they had some really big-time wins.
They smoked the Bills on Monday night football, beat the shit out of a 5-0 Saints team and beat a good Dolphins team.
That was a season of great wins and horrible losses.
They got their asses kicked by Jerome Bettis and the Rams, the Browns in the Eric Metcalf game, a shitty Seahawks team and the Broncos just totally throttled them in Denver.
It was a really weird season and was the year that O'Donnell had elbow issues all year which didn't help.
It became very obvious after that season that they HAD to find a decent WR and used their 1st round pick the following season on Charles Johnson after using the 3rd rounder in 1993 on Andre Hastings.

You're right, '93 was a roller coaster.  Slow start, and then they went on that tear and looked like the best team in football, especially when they kicked Buffalo's ass on Monday Night Football. And then, terrible losses to Buffalo and Houston, plus we got swept by Houston. 

Ah, Charles Johnson... what a disappointment. Definitely not a "bust", but still a disappointment.
