NFL Has a problem with players in Vegas...

They grant the Raiders to move to Vegas $$$ Yet don't want players to participate in events there. (Such as) The James Harrison incident this past weekend.

I get the part of not gambling or betting. > >But why let a team into Vegas, if your going to run into more problems  like this? Its like ringing the dinner bell for sharks on a crowded beach.

Whats your take? Negatives and positives?

Dude, this post is so spot-on. They're just BEGGING for trouble. I'm not a proponent of gambling, but the ardent "no gambling" hypocrisy around a league who's popularity and revenue is so largely tied to gambling just cracks me up!

Yes, let's throw a little more chum in the water, shall we? Shaking my head...

Out with Goodell, in with Condi!

To me Goodell has had a personnel vendetta against Harrison for years. I'd like to see them in a Texas cage match with proceeds going to charity. I'd pay for that on cable.

True, 'dat. It's like the random drug test generator only has one name in it.

It was just announced (no kidding) a Raider's themed brothel will open near Las Vegas, on the site of the old bunny ranch. Beginning rate per night $5,000.00 with discounts to Raider's players.

While I'm not sure what the attraction is to being in Las Vegas, other than a nice facility to play in. The market base there is depressed, as the average gaming employee is not exactly getting rich. Further, the likelihood of players and their families living there year round is about zero. Would you want to raise a family in that environment? As for players risk factor, if they are going to gamble, there are plenty of opportunities in any number of different casinos, and betting parlors around the nation. As for the predatory gambling thugs seeking to fix games, let me remind you they didn't had a problem getting to Chicago in 1919. This is a non issue to me.

Well you pay no state tax in Nevada, and outside the strip it isn't a bad place to raise a family. Great outdoor activities and Lake Mead nearby. The silver-state has a lot going for it.

Well, I've never been, so what do I know? Eh? Perceptions can lead one astray. Thanks.

I'm sure there are great places to live in Nevada... as there are in most every state, I suppose. But Reno and Vegas, the gambling and the legalized prostitution cast a dark shadow over the whole state. Reno was one of the most depressing places I've ever been and Vegas isn't much better.
