Haley on his way out?

Haley sucked balls today. Piled up TONS of yardage and dominated KC to the point of embarrassment for 3 quarters, but produced only 19 points. Our inability to turn all that yardage into scoring almost cost us the game.
I spent a few hours today gathering old clips (pre and postgame stuff) from the 2004 season. It's like the Steeler offense was playing a completely different game. I'd almost forgotten what a lethal scoring threat Ben was, from nearly anywhere on the field, even as a rookie. Big play after big play. This dink and dunk bullshit we're infatuated with now? Makes me want to puke. I've finally reached my limit. I've had enough of Haley. 2 catches for Bryant? 1 catch by a TE (although strangely, I think we actually attempted more deep throws to TE's than WRs today). Where is Eli Rogers? Is Bell "really" a possession receiver? Kudos to the defense. I was more than a little nervous at the end when they seemed to have a brief collapse, but overall... a pretty epic performance. James Harrison, you are still my favorite defensive player on this team. ![]() |

It’s pretty basic that the best way to keep a high powered offense in check, is to keep them off the field. For the most part, mission accomplished. The trade off is you aren’t going to score a lot of points doing that. My problem wasn't so much the game plan, or the players on the field so much, it’s just is critical situations, you can’t be so dang predictable, which was a major issue with Arians as well. Pass-pass-draw is as predictable as run-run-pass. |

We try to grind out wins every game.
Now Bryant wants traded. Haley must have pics of Art II with a goat or a sheep. |

People began to hate Arians the minute he bashed the beloved I-formation and fullbacks.
Haley gives them that. So he gets a free pass. |

He was every bit as much of a fullback as Nix, only nowher near as good, and also unemployed. As for three TE Sets, Hayley didn’t invent it. I suppose you forgot about the Miller, Spath, and Johnson troika. No pass Arians. Ever. |

Difference is, Arians offense produced.
Haley's offense sucks ass. Arians has been gone since 2012, we brought Johnson back AFTER he left for San Diego. What you saw today is Haley's offense to a T. Which is why Martavis wants out. |

No, Martavis wants out because he's not the number one receiver on the team like he thinks he should be. And he won't be as long as AB plays his heart out and helps the team win games like he did today.
Drama aside, he's the better player and the better option for the offense. If Bryant can't handle that, let him go to Cleveland or San Francisco and really learn what's it's like to be a zero. |

He wants to be more involved.
His HOF QB wants him more involved. The Steelers cater to a golf coach, and putting stiffs on the field. Then people bitch that Ben forces too many passes to Brown

Like I said, if you love stats for stats sake, he’s your guy. Chuck and duck stats will always look better than the outcome since production includes lost yardage from sacks. Frankly, I’ve never seen an O that found itself behind the chains as often. The rushing attack yardage was smoke and mirror, the heavy lifting mostly from draw plays on 3rd down and forever and concluding short of the chain. Whoopie, do this 4 times a game, and your rushing per attempt average goes from a 2.4 average to 4.1. On the passing side the pressure on the pocket was ridiculous, but by design. Blockers were always out numbered that made Ben a sitting target waiting for his WR to get open 30 yards down field. Hence, an in ordinent amount of untimely holding calls, not mention sacks, again putting us behind the chains. I can’t understand how you can discount how he trashed a promising QB in Cleveland, about ruined Ben to the point they had to make a change for his survival, we are still waiting for Andrew Luck to recover from his experience, and if I’m not mistaken, he managed to get Carson Palmer on IR as well. But what the heck. The stats look great. |

Trying to blame Arians for Andrew "Coach Killer" Luck is laughable.
Arians getting to an NFC title game with over the hill Carson Palmer is a minor miracle. Palmer blew out his knee, UNTOUCHED. Just like Rod Woodson did. Holding calls? How many holds have we seen already in Haley's offense? It's because play-calling is too predictable and the jumbo sets bring more people to the LOS. Let's not talk about ruining Ben without mentioning Haley. Because Ben only missed two games via injury where as with Haley he's already missed eight. Haley's predictability along with his stupid formations have Ben a sitting duck in this offense. The OL isn't as good as people think it is, but people just at sack totals to judge them. Haley's rushing game sucks. But he tries to do it more so fans don't care about the lack of results. Willie Parker led the NFL in rushing in 2007 before he got hurt, the Steelers were 31st in passing attempts, and fans/local media STILL bitched at Arians for "throwing too much" that season. Arians had his faults. But comparing him to an unqualified imbecile like Haley is like comparing a Porsche to a Pinto. Quote:The rushing attack yardage was smoke and mirror, the heavy lifting mostly from draw plays on 3rd down and forever and concluding short of the chain. Simply not true. The Steelers were among the best teams in TOP with Arians, and were one of the best teams on 3rd down in the league, even during his final two seasons. Amazes me how people pile on Arians simply because he denounced 1975 football. |

If you think Arians was crap with the Steelers then you have to believe Haley is worse.
Because he is. Haley's "QB safer" offense has KO'd every Steelers QB who has started here for him except Batch. It also KO'd Matt Cassel in Kansas City. Firing Arians cost the Steelers at least one AFC title since he left. |

you’ve certainly have convinced me abut Haley, but you are about as blind as blind can be about Arians.
BTW, Bob Labriola posted some interesting stats today since you like passing the ball so much. Ben career wise has posted 50 games where has thrown for 300 yards or more, most of which were in the Arians era. His record in those 50 games? 28-22. From the Bell era on, when Bell carries the ball 20 or more times, 24-3. Further, the Steelers are 9-0 if he carries more than 25 times a game. . While I am in agreement we should be more consistent with our passing game, it’s pretty much a given our chances of victory is greatly enhanced by an effective, consistently used ground game.

Bob Labriola is a Steelers employee. Don't care what he thinks.

Did the defense start slow? Did the offense start fast to see the defense swap scores anyway? I don't mind running the ball. I DO Mind running the ball when it doesn't work just to appease idiots who want 1975 football. Haley's tried to do that for 5 plus years. Now they don't win anything. Enjoy him! Quote:. Arians discharge did not have anything to do with Haley. His was fired by the owners of a billion dollar corporation that didn’t like his work. This sort of thing happens in corporate America. But truth be told, dispite all the BS you’ve been posting about this subject, given a choice acertaining the truth between management’s actions, with billion of dollars on the line, and the volume of crap that gets posted by posters in regard to St. Arians, with nothing to lose and no skin in the game, and based on my observation ( for whatever that’s worth), sorry guy, Ownership made the right decision to can his butt. I will say as a straight up swap, in hindsight, I’m scratching my head just like you, but you can’t look at it like that because that’s not how it went down. They are two separate transactions. The decision to can Arians was made long before the end of the season. Probably after Ben’s 20th sack in the first 5 games of that season, which was distinctly contrary to specific offseason marching orders from management. |

Quote:What’s this? You’re being subjective? LOL. The reason Arians got fired he was a subjective failure No he got fired because Dick LeBeau's 4th quarter defense couldn't be blamed on HIM. So Arians was his scapegoat, first in 2009 when they blew eight 4th quarter leads, and then after 2011 after LeBeau was humiliated by Joe freaking Flacco and Tim Tebow. When Haley was hired, I correctly posted this on another service, notice the date. "Haley is Dick LeBeau's worst nightmare. Because now, if his 4th quarter scheme continues to blow? He'll be the one getting the heat because they won't dare bash the Yinzer" -Crash 6/28/2012 13 blown 4th quarter leads in the first 38 games with Haley on the payroll? Only then did LeBeau start catching shit for it. To compare, from SB XLIII to week one in 2010, 18 games, LeBeau's defense blew 10 fourth quarter leads, but it was Ben/Arians who were blamed. Quote:His was fired by the owners of a billion dollar corporation that didn’t like his work. This sort of thing happens in corporate America. No, he was fired by ONE MAN, who overruled his hired "football people" who wanted Arians to stay. You keep digging a bigger hole, you should put down your shovel. So now it's economics huh? By all means, let's compare REAL NFL economics: Home playoff games under Haley: 2 Home playoff games under Arians: 5 Bye weeks under Haley: 0 Bye weeks under Arians: 2 Anything else? Quote:The decision to can Arians was made long before the end of the season. Probably after Ben’s 20th sack in the first 5 games of that season, which was distinctly contrary to specific offseason marching orders from management. The offseason marching orders came AFTER Arians was already fired. Haley answered that 2012 bell by getting Ben crunched and after only 9 starts, he missed more games injured under Haley in the first half season with him, than he did in five seasons COMBINED with Arians. The next season, Haley had Ben getting hit at record pace, then he was demoted. When Ben began calling more plays in the no huddle and the constant Haley musical chairs stopped? The offense kept Ben clean. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/2013/...1311010089 So the ONLY one who failed, despite ownership DEMANDS to save Ben from impending doom? Was Haley.

Arians has washed up Carson Palmer.
Haley supposedly has all this talent and he'd rather play Vance McDonald, Xaiver Grimble, Roosevelt Nix, and Watson. See Ben and Tomlin at the end of the first half? That's why Ben's on the verge of quitting. He's had it with Toddy's tricks. |

Crash, based on BA’s employment record, don’t be surprised if he is again retired soon. Of course, he works for the Bidwells, a family that cares more about the long term capital gain of owning a sports franchise than fielding a contending team, which might extend his tenure.

His employment record is that when you hire him? Chances are good you are playing January football. Not the same with trickster Toddy. Steelers won 12 games three times in five years with Arians as OC. The Steelers as an organization, only one 12+ games SIX TIMES COMBINED since 1978, before Arians was ever OC. And ZERO times, in the previous five seasons, without him despite having all of this alleged talent at Toddy's disposal. Since 1974? The Cardinals have won 10+ games only seven times. Three of them, are with Arians. Arians was also OC when a 4 year old expansion team made the playoffs in 2002. Arians coached under Bear Bryant. Todd Haley played golf. Firing Arians and demanding Ben change cost this team at least one AFC title. And you can bet your ass Roethlisberger and his teammates agree. |
