Nearly 100 pastors and community leaders plan to hold a “Kneel-In” protest outside Bank of America Stadium before the start of the Carolina Panthers-Philadelphia Eagles NFL football game on Thursday night. The protest intends to highlight ongoing police brutality and social and racial injustice, just as former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick did while the national anthem was played before a 2016 NFL game, Bishop Kevin Long of Temple Church International-Charlotte told the Observer. “These things have yet to be properly addressed in our judicial system and the like,” Long said. ------------------- THIS is freedom of speech, and a peaceful, organized protest to express grievances. I'm absolutely fine with it, even if my personal feeling vary from those of the organizers. I've no issues if every NFL player not on the field tonight joins them (I wonder if anyone will?). Just keep it off the field of play. |

I agree 100%. Off the field is their own life to do as they please.

That said, the issues the the Bishop speaks of are not judicial in nature. It’s about a lack of faith in our system of justice, coupled with the gradual erosion of respect for moral and legal authority. If they truly want to make a difference, they would be better served if they were involved in town meetings, being informed voters, demanding better laws that protect everybody, bouncing governmental representatives that are fat and blinded by power, like the entire congress for instance, from office. Maybe, once that is done, everybody will feel comfortable with law enforcement officials to weed out the bad characters. More than anything else, we all should look in the mirror first. No doubt there are valid greivences out there. I have more than a few of my own, and I’m sure you all do too. That said, I totally have an unwavering faith in our system of checks and balances, as well as the fairness of our judicial system. It works and has worked well for 100s of years and it will continue to work if we exercise patience, restraint, and a hefty respect for another point of view, and looking out for the guy next door. |

How does this add to the argument, exactly?
