Ed Bouchette says he's been given "encouraging news" that Ryan Shazier has a spinal chord concussion, similar to the injury Tommy Maddox had in 2002. Maddox missed one game. Hopefully, this info is accurate.

Thank you, Jesus.  Pi_heartbeating Pi_hippie

It's hard to describe but right after the game I got a feeling that everything was going to be alright. I hope this report is correct.

Agreed, Thank you Jesus.

I had the misfortune to suffer two similar injuries. One during summer employment in the blast furnace dept of US Steel (neck injury the produced paralysis of both arms) and another after a car accident with a drunk driver (loss of movement in both legs). Neither, thank God, required surgery. Both required constrained bed rest for about a week. Movement gradually returned. I hope the same occurs for Shazier.

Looks like good news indeed.

I hope Ryan can learn to keep his head up when making a tackle.

Not a doctor but I feel he needs to get on with his life's work now. I fear the nfl is not an option unless he can coach. Not all bad. He has a lot of cash to rebuild his life. I hope he can get that done.

Most important part:  Alessi is affiliated w uconn and runs the NeuroSport program - he does NOT have access to Shazier's records. Per the original tweet, this is his opinion as a neurologist

Old Army saying: Opinions are like assholes - everybody's got one.  This lugnut's opine got him a touch of press coverage to say, "Uh, I don't no nothin, but i *think*...."

Rocky Blier wasn't ever supposed to walk again after the grenade attack in Vietnam.....  Everyone is so hungry for news, and the media is desperate to capitalize off of it.  Be patient, pray, and let it play out.

I agree we should just let this play out.  As for his surgery, who knows what they did our what the reason was for it. All we know at this point is there was an injury and there was  stabilization surgery. What we don’t know is, things like does he have feeling  in his extremities, will he walk, was the reason for the surgery to lesson the effects of the injury, or to prevent further damage, think of a cast on a broken arm.

We shall see, but being honest, I got a knot in my stomach over this, much like I did when Gabe Rivera had his accident, and hoping for the best.

I remember Gabe Rivera, he was the Steelers Sack leader and I think it might have been his rookie season.

I have some experience with Shaziers surgery. My Brother fell off a cliff 200 feet here in Los Gatos (Lexingtom Dam). He had a bruised spinal column and was paralyzed for 8 months.

They had to install 2 small, long rods in his back to support is spine. These rods will never be removed and he can not lift weights or play sports.  On a good note he got all of his extremities back and can walk on his own.

It had taken about 8 months for him to learn how to walk again and physical therapy. But the rods have to stay in. My Brother was a body builder and competed here in the bay area.

One bit, two bits
Three bits - a PESO!
All for Rivera
Stand up AND SAY SO!

Senor Sack from Texas Tech.  Was supposed to remove the sting of the aged ones leaving.

We skipped Marino to get Gabe.

He had two sacks in six games before the accident.
