'Ya know... it really kinda does seem like he just got here.

His first pass is at 1:33:29. His fist NFL interception comes a play later. His first completion comes at 1:38:53. Rookie Big Ben then proceeds to hit 10 of his next 12 passes for 143 yds and 2 TDs, including his first TD at 1:49:34 (to Randle El).

Always have. Just wish more of the fan base did.

Like Bradshaw, he'll only be appreciated MORE after he retires.

Sad.

Really? I feel like Ben is mostly adored by the fan base. I'm in Pittsburgh all the time on business and it's mostly a love fest for him from what I can see. Maybe not on talk radio or whatever, but "the folks" seem to love him.

Ben is adored MORE by out of town fans. Respected more.

Fans at the stadium respect him.

But A LOT of local fans, and local media don't. Never seen an elite player who's done nothing but win get the treatment he gets.

They'll hold Reno and Georgia against him, but NEVER held Charlie Batch's rape accusation against him when he was signed years before Ben was drafted.

Ben has never gotten the praise he deserves. I don't think he has ever even gotten Steeler MVP.

Ben was team MVP in 2009.

I don't think you can say he's underrated or underappreciated anymore, but he definitely was early in his career because the intangibles that make him so great don't show up on stat sheets. But multiple 500 yd games and multiple 6 TD games and a nearly 5,000 yard season definitely put him on the map with the national media. He's considered an elite QB.

Now, is he considered as elite as I think he really is? No. I think only Brady and Rogers have an edge on Ben. But I think most football pundits still probably include him in the top 5 if you weed out "flavor of the month" types.

I do find it surprising that he's never really been seriously considered for NFL MVP.

Didn't he have back-to-back 6 TD games a few seasons ago?

I never realized he was team MVP in 2009, however he certainly has deserved it more than 1 year.

Yeah, against the Colts and Ravens.

Agreed. It's a little bit of a locker room popularity contest, too, though. Ben is definitely and obviously respected by his teammates, but he's not one of those "buddies with everyone" types, so I'm sure that has an impact.

Ben's had a better career than Rodgers. For all of Rodgers glitz and glam he has only one NFC title and one ring.

If Rodgers came back from 17-0 down like Ben did last night you'd never hear the end of it.

Media just shrug it off when Ben does it.

Tim,

Too bad you can’t pull posts from about September of 2010 just to show how much Ben was appreciated.

I've gotta tell 'ya, now that I know Shazier is okay... I really LOVE what went on in that game Cinci game (as long as the sound is turned down). Love it. Probably my favorite game of the season so far. Fantastic comeback under ridiculous adversity. A huge win. I know I joked that it was "just Cinci," but it's a huge rivalry game against a division rival who we have a nasty recent history with. It really was a significant win.

I've watched bits and pieces of the game multiple times now. It's a true classic. Big Ben at his best in the 2nd half (to your point) and Bell and Brown both shining. Dalton and the Bengals wilting under the pressure while Ben rises to the occasion yet again. Love it.

You're right about the media shrugging it off. Ben will never be a media darling. BFD. He's a first ballot Hall of Famer. Book it.

Man, I loved when the reporter-ette asked Ben about the "viciousness of the game" in her post-game interview and he very quickly and curtly responded, "That's AFC North football," and then just looked at her in silence for a moment as if to say, "PERIOD." He gave her nothing to fuel the media's ridiculous "too violent" mantra.
