Decent signing, always pulled for Spence. I was wondering who was available. Any other rumors?

Question: If L.J. Fort made the team and put in his sweat equity in doing so (OTA's, camp, etc.), and then Shazier gets hurt, why would Tomlin sign Spence and elevate him to game status instantly ahead of Fort?

Is it that Spence is better than Fort? If so, why didn't the Steelers replace Fort with Spence sooner? Spence was released by Indianapolis on October 3rd and was available to the Steelers this whole time ...

Big Grin Super Bowl or Bust !!! ... (I'm guessing "Bust") ... but hey ...

Spence knows the system well enough to call plays. Fort was REALLY struggling last week to get the calls out.

I think they view Fort as having more "upside" and talent, but Spence is more job-ready.

I'll say this you have to remember Spence was on the couch for weeks. I'd like to hope he'll improve as he gets his legs back under him.

If he can't play James Harrison inside, he can play that role. He spent a lot of time in the middle in coverage when he was a starter.

At least use him on 3rd down in the middle.

I agree with Tim, I think Spence is ahead of Fort now because he can make the calls.

And considering that Fort has kicked around the NFL for several seasons, why keep him on a roster at all if he's not "next man up" quality? ... I mean, by now he should know the defense and be able to step in and call the defense if called upon ... How can Spence, who hasn't been through OTA's, camp, team meetings, etc. know the defense in merely three days of prcatice before getting a significant amount of playing time?

We play the same system Spence played in Tennessee with LeBeau since he left us.
